Google Beat

Google Beat is a short weekly video presenting the past week’s hottest trends online created by curious people using Google search. Think of it as our society’s cultural analysis, brought to us in weekly bite size as a time. To see an example, see Google Beat’s presenter, Anne Espiritu, covering the week ending October 1.
It’s fascinating to learn what people are searching for.

My Love/Hate Relationship With Running

For the past year I have been very dedicated to running and have made the time to run via, treadmill, school running tracks or neighbourhood streets 3-5 km 3 times per week. Many of the things I have learned from my running experience are useful Mantras that help me through my non running part of my life as well.

1.) Keep on Going
2.) Stay positive
3.) Hydrate
4.) Wear good shoes
5.) Prepare
6.) You can do this
7.) Never give up
8.) Do the best you can do
9.) Don't compare yourself to others or you will always fall short
10.) Mental preparedness can change everything
11.) Eat right- a balanced diet
12.) Rest
13.)Don't be too hard on yourself
14.)Listen to your body!
15.)positive thoughts leads to positive actions

Things That Make Me Happy

When the weather matches my mood (i.e. if I’m in a stay home, cuddly mood and it rains, I’m thrilled)

Finding a chocolate bar in my mailbox, courtesy of a thoughtful coworker.

Finding a good parking spot.

Putting on a pair of jeans that fit just right.

Seeing the name of one of my favorite people pop up on my phone with a text.

Good hair days

When networks are airing a marathon of your favorite TV show and you have all day to lounge around and watch.

Roadtrips with Garth and my girlies.

Coffee

Playing Yahtzee with Brooke.

Getting all the green lights.
Cruising the aisles of Dollarama

Snail mail that is not a bill

Clean laundry

Waking up and then realizing you get to sleep for another hour before your alarm goes off.

Hearing my daughters playing well together and laughing out loud.

Strange Statues & Scupltures

Whenever I was travel I always notice peoples fascination with taking photos of statues. I just don't get it. Is it in our genes? Is there some kind of magnet that draws us to them inside those sculptures? I have to admit there actually might be some sculptures that I would like to have a photo standing near … Check out some of these strange sculptures from around the world.

Vomiting Fountain Sculpture, London, UK.

Traffic Light Tree, London, UK.

The Magic Tap, Spain.......The tap appears to float in the sky with an endless supply of water. Actually, there is a pipe hidden in the stream of water that holds the whole structure.

The Shark, Headington,Oxford..... The Headington Shark is a sculpture situated at 2 New High Street, Headington, Oxford, England, depicting a shark embedded head-first in the roof of the house. The shark first appeared on August 9, 1986. Bill Heine, a local radio presenter who still owns the house, has said "The shark was to express someone feeling totally impotent and ripping a hole in their roof out of a sense of impotence and anger and desperation… It is saying something about CND, nuclear power, Chernobyl and Nagasaki."

The sculpture, which weighs 203 kilograms, is 25 feet long, and is made of painted fibreglass, is named Untitled 1986 (written on the gate of the house). The sculpture was erected on the 41st anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki.

Created by sculptor John Buckley, the shark was controversial when it first appeared. Oxford City Council tried to have it taken down on grounds of safety, and then on the grounds that it had not given planning permission for the shark, but there was much local support for the shark. Eventually the matter was taken to the central government, where the Department for the Environment assessed the case on planning grounds, and ruled that the shark would be allowed to remain as it did not result in harm to the visual amenity.

Recently, scaffolding has been erected around the shark, It is assumed that the structure is being reinforced for safety.

There are alot of strange statues in the world but this guy is the strangest scupture maker.

Trailer: Hereafter

Clint Eastwood’s latest film is a bit of departure for him as a director. Hereafter, a supernatural thriller, follows three people and the impact of death on their lives. The script was penned by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon). Matt Damon plays a retired psychic named George who has the ability to commune with the dead. Marie (played by Cecile de France) is a French journalist who is shaken after a near death experience in a tsunami. A third storyline follows Marcus (George McLaren), a schoolboy in London looking for answers after losing his twin brother. It is due out in theaters on October 22, 2010.
