Life On An Island

I am a girl that loves her solitude. My mind and spirit crave it and there are times when my life gets a little hectic and busy that I dream of retreating to hideaways...........
Who wouldn't love the idea of living on a tiny windswept island, drinking a cup of tea while the rain batters the windows and scows at the world. Sounds good .....no?

I Love Bath & Bodyworks

I love browing the aisles at Bath & Bodyworks....I am going to chack out these new collections.

Forever Sunshine....... this is being featured as a summer-fall scent, promising to capture "the romance of warm days that linger into cool autumn."
Available now in Shower Gel, Body Lotion, Eau de Toilette, Triple Moisture Body Cream, and Fragrance Mist.

Dark Kiss........ is another Fall scent. It reflects notes of incense, plum, and night musk.

Mosquito Repellant

I'm not a huge fan of bug spray but I definately have a bigger hate on for mosquitos. I would definately like them more if their bites were more productive..........for instance wouldn't it be great if they sucked out fat rather than blood. The mosquitos this year are huge so I may have to give in to the use of spray. I think I might give this a try.
Does anyone know if this works?

3 Fall TV Shows I'm Looking Forward To

1.) Boardwalk Empire
Martin Scorsese and Sopranos writer Terence Winter have combined their gangster-loving chops to create a series set in 1920s Atlantic City. It stars the wonderful Steve Buscemi as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, a crooked politician-cum-mobster.
Air date: September 19

2.) Undercovers
Lost mastermind J.J. Abrams switches from ABC to NBC for a spy drama following a retired CIA agent-turned-caterer couple who have been called back to duty. .
Air date: Fall 2010

3.) Hellcats
Marti is a smart college student studying to be a lawyer. When she loses her scholarship, she bites the bullet and joins the cheerleading squad to finagle some funding.
Air date: September 8

Trailer: It's Kind Of A Funny Story

I am looking forward to this coming-of-age dramedy that stars Keir Gilchrist as a depressed teen who ends up in an adult psychiatric unit after a botched suicide attempt. Zach Galifianakis plays another one of the crazies/the Chief to his McMurphy. There’s an adorable romantic plot line with Emma Roberts, who’s definitely crazy because she thinks she’s ugly. Lauren Graham, Viola Davis, Zoe Kravitz, Aasif Mandvi, Jim Gaffigan, and Jeremy Davies also star. The film’s score was written by Broken Social Scene. It hits the theaters September 24, 2010.

Life Is Too Short

Staring at the calendar I just realized that 2010 is half over. It feels like a few months ago that I was in Disney world but that was 3 years ago. It made me realize that life is definitely too short to........

Hold grudges
To go to bed early......unless you have to
Wear uncomfortable shoes
Be hung up about your hips/upper arms/boobs/thighs

Try to please everyone
Hang out with people that don't realize how awesome you are
Go to a job that you hate
Avoid that food that you love
Put off doing that thing that excites you
Miss the opportunity to spend time with loved ones

Songs That I Am Currently Diggin'

Tiny Light By Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.......This song is smoking hot and man can thi girl sing........listen through to the end.

All The Lovers By Scissor Scissors.........The Scissor Scissors add a little country twang to their cover of Kylie Minogue's "All the Lovers."

King Of Anything by Sara Barielles.......'King of Anything' is sort of a 'f**k you' song," said Bareilles. "I've had more unsolicited advice on my life than I care to mention, and this was how I dealt with it. It felt empowering to turn that frustration into music, especially a song that doesn't even sound angry.

Hanuman by Rodrigo y Gabriela.......amazing guitar duet.

Lazyboy- Underwear Goes Outside The Pants Video

Sometimes the truth hurts, however I think he is just skimming the surface.

The Bangles - Eternal Flame

This tune was written by popular songwriters Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly and the Bangles' own Susanna Hoffs. The song was inspired by two eternal flames....... one for Elvis Presley thatwas at Graceland, and one at a local synagogue in Palm Springs which Steinberg attended as a child...... "Susanna was talking about The Bangles having visited Graceland, and she said there was some type of shrine to Elvis that included some kind of eternal flame. As soon as those words were mentioned, I immediately thought of the synagogue in the town of Palm Springs, California where I grew up. I remember during our Sunday school class they would walk us through the sanctuary. There was one little red light and they told us it was called the eternal flame."

Yellow.....We All Know Not To Eat Yellow Snow, Right?

A straightforward colour, a warm colour, a happy colour, a generous colour.

It's a colour of memories.
The colour of our kitchen wallpaper when we lived in Kingston.
The colour of my brother Marks Volkswagen Rabbit.
The Colour of the many rubber duckie bath toys that would amuse my girls as toddlers.
There was a sea of Yellow taxis in New York City during that September weekend.
It is the colour of mustard which I miss on my street dogs in Toronto as I learned recently I am allergic to.
Yellow means having everything at your finger tips with the yellow pages.
It is the colour of one of my favorite albums, Jack Johnsons "In Between Dreams."
The cover of the complete adventures of Curious George that Garth bought for Brooke on the day she was born.
A colour that offers the promise of a new day.

My Thoughts On Big Brother For Leanne

So...... last night was the launch of Big Brother 12 and I now know Summer has arrived. The house colours are great and I love the beach theme.
It doesn't take me long to figure out who I am rooting for and who I despise. Who will win my heart like Dr. Will and Janelle did?
The big surprise this season is the sabauteur which to me is a recycled version of Americas Player. I'm not sure if i'm going to like it or not.

So after a quick intro of the houseguests last night, let me share some of my thoughts.

Andrew.....a podiatrist masquerading as a shoe salesman. He is also a practicing Jew and will keep kosher and observe the Sabbath during his time in the house. So far he seems non-irritating, although I felt he volunteered to sit out the HoH comp a little too quickly.

Annie............a bisexual with an eyebrow-tweezing problem. I don't know why but she annoys me.

Brendon...................Brendon is a hottie that looks like Dane Cook.

Britney..................She’s kind of cute and I love when she said she loves Ragan because from the minute he opened his mouth, she knew he was a flaming homosexual and she can't wait to talk about boys and Sex and the City. I also laughed when she said "I lost my dignity on a slippery weiner." This girl has the best lines ever.

Enzo...........Yuck!!!!!! He’s awful, and I’m already tired of him.

Hayden.............Another hottie.

Kathy........my first thought for Sabateur. Has this woman had alot of plastic surgery?

Kristen................I have no problems with Kristen so far.

Lane......I find it endearing that Lane told us he hopes to align himself with a smart player because he’s not that smart himself.

Matt.........Apparently he is a genius.

Monet......The only person of color in the house, Monet won $10K right off the bat. She seems okay so far. I think she might be a bit of a diva.

Rachel........did she say she was a chemist? Really!

Ragan .....is this season’s gay and nothing gave it away more than the V-neck tshirt.

Trends I Bought Into

Yo Yos......I always start out thinking I am better than I am.

Slinky.......I could never get mine to go down the stairs.....I call Bullshit on that one.

Lava Lamps.....I still have 2 in the movie room and love to mellow out and watch them as I listen to music.

Rubik’s Cube.....I lost many hours of my life thinking I was smart enough to solve the cube.

Ouija Boards.....so spooky and mysterious.

Slime.......I used to love whipping this stuff at my brother but I hated the smell of the stuff and how it used to get hair and carpet fibres stuck to it.....ugh!!!

Mood Rings.....My mom had one when we lived in Kingston and I remember trying to figure out her mood by the colour of the ring.

Gel Pens......everything written looks better in neon orange.

Skatebarding.......Long hot sunny days of my youth while growing up in Venezuela, my brother Mark and his Friend Fernando taught me how to master a 360.

Silly Putty......I loved that you could press them on the Sunday comics and make a coloured copy of the picture.

Watermelon Carving

I want to try this....

Watermelon carving from Vid Nikolic on Vimeo.

Shift Change In The Nursing Station

It begins with a stampede of nurses running towards the exit door after their shift is over. I always find it amazing how nurses catch their second wind when it’s time to go home. Then there is the ritual of receiving report from the off going shift.
Giving report requires good communication skills, diplomacy, and a sense of humor.
Things often get really loud in the report room. Nurses eat and drink during report. I often think this is a survival tactic because it may be our last time to do so before the end of a twelve hour shift. They also gossip while you are trying to listen to the info being relayed to you. Since becoming deaf from my radiation and chemo treatment this kind of background noise drives me crazy. It throws off my concentration but unfortunately, professionalism dictates that you cannot tell noisy nurses to “shut the hell up.”
