Mia Farrow's Adopted Daughter Dies

Vietnamese-born Lark Previn, who was adopted by Farrow and musician Andre Previn, died on Christmas Day.
Previn had suffered ill health for a decade. Her cause of death is not yet known. She is survived by her live-in boyfriend Robert Garcia as well as her two daughters, Sara, 13, and 12-year-old Christine.
I think it is horrible that this write up in the New York Daily News reminds readers of her shoplifting discretion during this time of grief for her family and friends.

Song Of The Day: Seasons of Love By The Cast Of Rent

"Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes" (the number of minutes in a common - non-leap - calendar year).
"How do you measure a year?"
"Daylights,"
"Sunsets,"
"Midnights,"
"inches",
"miles",
"cups of coffee"
"laughter",
"strife"

This song teaches us that love is the only proper measure of a year in a human life.

Song Of The Day: Thats Not My Name By The Ting Tings

This song has two music videos. The one featured below has the Ting Tings on a white background performing the song on a set and was used to promote the song and album upon its 2007 release.
Columbia produced a 2008 video, with them performing again on a different set, with more equipment and flashing lights in the background.

Mugshot Metamorphosis

Meet Michael Campbell, before and after.
The Colorado man has a long rap sheet and prison history, though you probably could have guessed that based on the mug shots.
In the "before" photos, Campbell is seen following a 2003 theft arrest in Jefferson County, Colorado.
The "after" photos were snapped about six weeks ago, when Campbell was again popped and jailed at the Jefferson County lockup.
Though he has been in and out of custody between 2003 and 2008, Campbell, 33, apparently used his infrequent time on the street to aggressively supplement his facial and neck art.
It is unclear, however, why his ears, to date, have been left untouched. I love the polka-dotted bow tie.

Things That Suck

Often I write a list of the things I love. Currently, I am working on a list that encapsulates the things I love relating to the year 2008.
Since I have been trying to find balance in my life since recovering from Cancer I decided to do a list that is not all about fluffy clouds and puppies but is related to the suckier things in life.

Full parking lots
Guns
Running out of
toilet paper
Pimple on my face when I have to see people
Dreary, dismal cold weather
When fast food joints screw up your order
Overdue library books
Getting dark at 5 o’clock.
Cold Feet
Women who complain that they're fat, when they really aren't
Allergies
That tingly feeling when your foot falls asleep
Forgetting how a dream ends
Toothaches
The Movie version of Mamma Mia

Song Of The Day: Roll On By Kid Rock

I love the meaning behind this song. Life does roll on without anything we can do about it. So while we are here on earth we must make the best of it.

Gilligan Is Going To The Big Screen

Sherwood Schwartz is going to have his other major television brainchild made into a movie (because The Brady Bunch and its sequels weren't enough). Even more interesting, his Gilligan of choice is Michael Cera although the planning is still in the early stages. I can see Hollywood trying to make the cast multi-ethnic to give it a more modern appeal. Will it have an African-American Skipper? An Asian Mary Ann? A gay Professor (I only say this given his historic lack of pursuit of Mary Ann or Ginger.) Sometimes I think they should leave these television classics alone.

Song Of The Day: Heart Of Life By John Mayer

I love this calming song.

Quirks

My youngest daughter asked me the other day what the word quirk means.
I tried to explain that a quirk is an odd habit. It led me to think if I can give her some examples of my quirks.

This is what I came up with so far. Those of you who know me might know a few more. What are some of your quirks?

I love watching previews when I go to the movies. If they offered such a thing, I’d watch previews for two hours instead of watching the movie.
I like planning and making lists. My follow through, however, is not so great.

I hate door to door salesman types. I know they don't do that much anymore but when they do come to visit my normal response to this activity while I'm at home is to politely tell them to f***off.

I’m very sensitive to noise when I’m trying to fall asleep.

I drink my coffee first all by itself before I have any breakfast

I leave earlier than I need to wherever I need to go.

I generally do not wear make-up.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you and yours. Later this evening after our family festivities in our home sweet home we will be driving to Brantford to spend time with my parents, brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. We will visit with the in-laws and my husbands siblings. It is a week of chaos and fun combined. I hope you're taking a little time off this week yourselves to spend some time relaxing with family and friends.

Song Of The Day: Merry Christmas Everyone By Shakin Stevens

This festive tune was originally going to be released in 1984 but was postponed a year because of the release of Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.

Happy Christmas To All.....

and to all.....a good night!

Song Of The Day: Happy Christmas (War is Over) By the Fray War Compilation

The original version of this song by John Lennon is my still my favourite version but I really like the effective video that accompanies this cover by The Fray.
This protest song about the Vietnam War, that has become a Christmas standard has been covered by The Used, Maroon 5, Jimmy Buffett, Céline Dion, Melissa Etheridge, The Corrs, and Sarah McLachlan.

Fifty People.....One Question

It is well known among my family and friends that I love to engage people in conversation by asking them some thought provoking questions. I love hearing other peoples opinions and views and sometimes it causes a shift in my thought processes. Friends are always asking me, "Where do you think of these things?" Interestingly, they always engage me and I often hear them sometime later ask another somebody the question that I posed to them.
Is it any wonder that this appealed to me. I love the answer of the lady wearing the head scarf.

Over Reaction To American Idol

This over dedication is sad and pathetic.

Song Of The Day: All I Get For Christmas Is Blue By Over The Rhine

Over the Rhine are an Ohio-based musical band, the core of which is the husband-and-wife team of bassist/pianist/guitarist Linford Detweiler and vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist.
In this Christmas tune from their Holiday Album "Snow Angel," I love the bluesy feel that lingers as Karin croons about real seasonal depression and missing the one you love as you sit alone during the Holidays.

Chuckle Of The Day: Christmas Train Ride

This video has obviously been edited. They left out the part where the Mom beats the kid to a bloody pulp.

Batman Toy

The video below features the Naughty Batman Toy Gun. The video disturbed me not because of the gun but because of the man doing the commentary. How many Red Bull drinks has he had?

Another Great Time Waster: Reneck Play Station

My brother-in-law sent me this site.

Trailer: I Love You Man

I Love You, Man is both written and directed by John Hamburg, the screenwriter of Meet the Parents, Zoolander, and Along Came Polly.

Song Of The Day: All That I Want By The Weepies

Another of my favorites. I love their natural, melodic and simple sound.

Incredible Reunion

Watch the video posted here that features a tearful reunion between long lost friends. The story that ties them together is an incredible one. James Carrington was an American soldier in WWII. He was captured and imprisoned in the Japanese-occupied Philippine Islands.

Carrington made a daring escape from his prison camp. But he had nowhere to go. He came upon a group of strangers passing in a horse cart. He pled for a ride away from the prison. In the cart were 11-year-old Jesus Gonzalez and his older brother.

The brothers hid Carrington under hay in the cart. They passed through multiple Japanese checkpoints. The brothers were risking certain execution if Carrington was discovered. He was not. And he hid for several weeks at the Gonzalez home.

Carrington stayed in the Philippines as a guerrilla fighter. His exploits were well known in the area. The Japanese later captured the older Gonzalez brother. A spurned girlfriend had tipped them off about Carrington’s rescue. He was never seen again.

Jesus Gonzalez grew up, and often told this story to his kids. One day his daughter decided to Google Carrington. Unbelievably, she found him. He was living under hospice care in New Orleans. A meeting was quickly arranged. The two hadn’t seen each other in 65 years. This video shows that reunion.

Carrington died just 11 days after the meeting.

Scrabble Turns 60

My daughter Brooke and I love to play Scrabble. Occasionally my husband will get in on it as well but for the most part this is something Brooke and I enjoy together. The other day when I was out at Toys R Us, I saw this and was tempted to pick one up as I am playing on an original old school Scrabble set from circa 1960s or 1970s. I am done my Christmas shopping so I left with only the gift cards for neices and nephews. As Scrabble celebrates its 6oth birthday, I will contemplate getting for Brookes upcoming Birthday.

Johansson has put the tissue and its, um, contents on
eBay to raise money for a charity she supports, USA Harvest.
The current bid is US $2,151.00

Exact Bid On Price Is Right

Drew Carey's reaction was odd to say the least. He very calmly said the price, then smiled wryly and told the guy he won both showcases.

Case Closed

I remember as a young girl reading the Stephen Truscott story and it fascinated me. It was two years lady when I was 15 that I began to follow this story. It stayed with me over the years and it was the catalyst for a school project I did on child predators. I think these horrible tragedies were the fuel that ignited my career choice in working with the mentally ill. I love learning about the human psyche and profiling of these type of killers intrigues me. Today as I read this I feel some comfort for the Walsh family that this case can finally be closed and left to rest in peace.

Showtime Develops Coming-Out Series

"It's a show that has universal appeal because everybody can relate to having part of their lives hidden."

Showtime is developing a series about gay people coming out to friends and family. I have many friends that are homosexual and have discussed with each of them the pivotal moment that they came out and made the big reveal to loved ones. This show appeals to me and I like how they will also then chart how relationships are changed after the revelation.

Today Was A Mary Tyler Moore Day

I once shared a fact of life that pertains to Jewelgurl with a friend of mine.
I explained to her that for the most part, I lead a fairly charmed life and things usually run fairly smoothly during the course of my day. However, every once in a while the Karma Gods want to play little tricks on me and when they do.......they make it a day from hell from beginning to end.
So what I am trying to say is that when I am having a bad day it never usually turns around until the light of a new day. Sometimes I want to jump up and down and scream, "Okay you win" and then go to bed until tomorrow arrives.
My friend told me that is what she calls "A Mary Tyler Moore Day" as there was an episode about that very thing.
I won't give you every sorted dirty detail of my day but I will share my particularly frustrating morning.
I had to get up very early this morning to run an errand with my husband to get his car fixed and I had planned on going to the gym after I dropped him off back at home. When I arrive at the gym, I realized that I forgot my running shoes in my gym bag. No problemo!!
I drove back home and got my shoes.
After the gym I decided to go to Sears to pick up my latest order and when I get there after waiting in line for 5 minutes I realize that I don't have my Sears card as I just changed wallets. No problemo!!!
I drove home and I got my card. While I am getting back into my car to return to Sears I realize that I left my Winter boots at the gym and am still wearing my running shoes.
I decide to return to the gym to get my boots and then onto Sears to once again pick up my order. Of course I have to wait in line again and of course I have to be behind the most annoying woman who is trying to pull the most pathetic scam I have seen in ages.
She has apparently just bought a Sony Blue Ray machine from Sears and has decided to present them with her receipt and show them a flyer from Walmart that has a Sony Blue Ray machine at a much lower price. She is requesting them to price match.
The Sears retail lady explains that there is no model number or any type of detail to show that they are the same machine. She explains to the lady if you can present me with more detail and info then we will honor the price match. The customer becomes quite annoyed and says, "Well how many models of Sony DVD machines are there. I shouldn't have to do that. You should have the model number on the receipt, blah, blah, blah."
It is at this point I decide to offer my 2 cents and I say there are quite a few different models of Sony Blue Ray machines with various price points and that the onus is on the lady to provide the details for Sears to honor the price match. The lady then turns to me and says "What does this matter to you?" All I am thinking is......." I am just trying to speed you along so I can get my my bloody order and go home." Instead I say, "Because what you are doing is wrong and I you are being totally unreasonable." She picked up her flyer and receipt and out of the store she went. I eventually picked up my order and made my way home to more of my horrible no good very bad day.
I shared with my husband that I was having a Mary Tyler Moore Day and he very sweetly asked, " Are you turning the world on with your smile?"
Not quite!!!

Fun Film Fact

Variety Magazine has just reported that Barrett-Roddenberry, the widow of Trek creator Gene Roddenberry will reprise her role as the voice of the Enterprise computer.
She originally started in the franchise as Number One in the pilot and as Nurse Christine Chapel in the original series.
Since then, she has appeared in or provided the computer voice for all six Trek TV series.......the only actor to be in all of them......and also voiced the computer in most of the movies.

Star Trek opens in May 2009.

Hurley is closest to the window. Is that in case he needs an exit strategy?

Sadly, Claire is also not in the photo and yet Kate is not with Baby Aaron. This picture has left me with too many unanswered questions.......hmmmmm.

Say It Isn't So!

I loved the movie "Adventures in Babysitting" when I was younger and it has now become a favorite of my two daughters and belongs in their growing collection of DVD movies. I have just learned that Miley Cyrus will star in a sequel to 80s hit "Adventures in Babysitting". Fellow tween star Raven Symone will co-star in the sequel, currently titled "Further Adventures in Babysitting." The movie is set for a 2010 release. I doubt this one will line their movie shelf.
