Song Of The Day: Juliette By Hollerado

Hollerado are a Canadian group originally from Manotick, Ontario. They have recorded and periodically lived in Montreal where they gained attention as one of Montreal's "top up-and-coming bands. The band were hand-picked by Jack White to open for his newest group, The Dead Weather. I like their sound.

The Revealing Of Richard Alpert

I loved last weeks episode of LOST and feel the episodes are incresingly revealing the purpose and mystery that surround some of the the main characters.

During a flashback to 1867 we see a still-young Richard riding around on horseback in the Canary Islands. We learn that Richard loses his wife to a disease....looks like TB. Richard kills a doctor out of desparation in his quest for a cure, and finds himself in jail. Circumstances give him the opportunity to become a slave on the ship The Black Rock.

A storm causes them to be shipwrecked upon the island and the entire crew of the ship is captured by the smoke monster, but Richard is left alive. The man in black (the antagonist lawyer on the TV show The Good Wife.) proceeds to tell him that they are in hell, and if he wants to escape, Richard must kill the devil, Jacob.

Richard agrees, but when he meets Jacob, he is unable to perform the task. He tells Jacob who sent him, and Jacob in turn explains that the island is comparable to a cork on a wine bottle..... the island keeps the evil inside. If the man in black were to escape, the world would be in tremendous danger. It is in this scene that Jacob also gives Richard the gift of eternal life, as he fears that the murder of the doctor will send him to hell.

Upon returning to the jungle, the man in black realizes that Richard did not kill Jacob. Richard will serve as an advisor for Jacob, and the man in black insists that if he ever changes his mind, he knows where to find him.

With that, we flash to the present on the island, and Richard digs up a treasured item that he buried long ago; a cross that belonged to his wife. Richard shouts to the heavens that he has changed his mind, that he wants to join the man in black, in hopes of seeing his wife again.

Suddenly, Hurley appears and reveals that he has spoken to Richard’s wife, and that she wants him to know something. In disbelief, Richard listens as Hurley says that Isabella does not want her husband to blame himself for her death. She claims that they are always together, in one of the most gripping, emotional moments of the hour. Richard realizes that he cannot join the side of the man in black; it is now his mission to discover how to stop the mysterious man in black from leaving the island and spreading his evil into the world.

Song Of The Day: Say Hey (I Love You) By Michael Franti & Spearhead

Michael Franti is the creator and lead vocalist of Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that blends hip hop with a variety of other styles including funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. He is also an outspoken supporter for a wide spectrum of peace and social justice issues. In 2000, Franti decided not to wear any shoes, initially for three days. Since then, Franti has been walking through life barefoot except for occasionally wearing flip-flops as required to board an airplane or to be served in a restaurant as he simply prefers not to wear shoes.

Song Of The Day: The Ghost Who Walks By Karen Elson

Model Karen Elson....who is AKA Mrs. Jack White of the White Stripes has her debut solo album being released this summer. Jack has produced the project. I must say I actually like this acoustic in-studio video for the song "The Ghost Who Walks."

Farts Are Spiritual

It’s perfectly normal to have gas.
As an adult, I know I shouldn’t laugh when someone farts .... but sometimes I can’t help it. I know it is not just me that think farts sound funny?
My God daughter Isabella and my two daughters had fits of laughter during lunch the other day as they shared Fart stories. I saw much jou and glee in their eyes as they bonded in sharing their experiences of this very normal bodily function.
There’s something primitive about a left cheek sneak. I’ve been farting all my life.
I don’t think I could trust someone who didn’t fart ......or who couldn’t admit that they did pass gas every so often.

Without farts, we’d all eventually just float away like helium balloons. Farting keeps us grounded.

RIP: Alex Chilton

This may come as no surprise to many but somehow the recent death of Alex Chilton slipped by me and I must mention how sad I am to hear of his sudden death that occurred on March 17th. He experienced mainstream success in the 1960s with The Box Tops and later achieved cult hero status as one of the founders of Big Star.
"Thirteen" is a favorite tune of mine and is one of the prettiest ballads ever written. It was originally featured on Big Star's 1972 debut titled #1 Record. During the last few years, Chilton continued to record and tour, as a soloist and as a member of The Box Tops and Big Star. He is survived by his wife and son.

Song Of The Day: Judy In Disguise By John Fred & His Playboy Band

This tune was a parody of The Beatles' hit, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". The song was inspired by Fred's listening to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and mistakenly believing that the lyrics to the song were "Lucy in disguise with diamonds." However, it also stuck the group with a novelty act image they were never able to shake.

Song Of The Day: Telephone By Lady Gaga Featuring Beyonce

The video which is nine and a half minutes in length pays homage to Quintin Taratino and his films Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. Gaga explained that the music video is a continuation of the video for "Paparazzi", and is also shot as a short film. The video features Gaga in a prison, from where she gets bailed out by Beyoncé. They go to a diner where, after a series of events, they kill the guests having dinner. It ends with Gaga and Beyoncé escaping from the police.

Character Flaws

Character flaws of mine:

I always want to please people and try hard not to let anyone down or to disappoint people.

I am rather impatient and I want things done my way.

I have very high expectations of myself and others and become frustrated when those expectations are not met.

I tell people I am kidding when I say, "If only everyone would do exactly as I tell them, the world would run better." But I am not.

I am sure I have many other character flaws, but these are the biggest ones in my mind.

So, anyone wondering what happened to Carly Smithson....the Irish lass who was one of the finalists on American Idol Season 7. Well, even though she wasn’t able to jumpstart a solo singing career after Idol, she does have the next best thing....she found a home in the band ‘We Are The Fallen‘ (aka the NOT Evanescence but composed of ex-Evanescence members). Song Of The Day: The Ballad of Ronnie Drew By

Ronnie Drew was an Irish singer and folk musician who achieved international fame during a fifty year career recording with The Dubliners. He recorded with many artists, including Christy Moore, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, and others. Drew died in Dublin on 16 August 2008, following a long illness and in February 2008, a song was released called "The Ballad of Ronnie Drew" which was performed by a number of famous Irish musicians. This included members of U2, Sinéad O'Connor, Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead, Andrea Corr, Shane MacGowan, Bob Geldof, Chris de Burgh, Ronan Keating, and Joe Elliott of Def Leppard as well as The Dubliners and The Chieftains.
The single was written to originally include Ronnie himself but was changed to be a tribute to him as his health was declining. Proceeds from sale of the single went to the The Irish Cancer Society at the request of Drew himself.
My favorite verse is fitting on this St. Patricks day.....

Here’s to the Ronnie, the voice we adore
Like coals from a coal bucket scraping the floor
Sing out his praises in music and malt
And if you’re not Irish, that isn’t your fault

Song Of The Day: This Too Shall Pass By OK Go

OK Go bassist Tim Nordwind says filming their new music video was both "exciting and frustrating".
The single-shot video for "This Too Shall Pass" features a complex Rube Goldberg machine, which sparks a series of chain reactions.
Nordwind said the band attempted to shoot the video sixty times over two days, and only succeed three times all the way through.
"The frustrating part would be getting half way through and then something doesn’t trigger," he said.

"And because the setup time took so long once you got about half way through you started to get really excited because you think ‘Oh my God, this thing is working’, and then the paint can doesn’t get triggered to knock off the red trash can and you’re like ‘Oh fuck’."

LOST Update For Confused Fans

We are watching through 2 variables Island reality and Alternate reality.

During the Island reality the Islanders realize that blowing up the bomb did not work and that Juliet was going to die..... also Hurley was told by a recently murdered Jacob to get Sayid to the temple and that Jin would help him.

During the alternate reality we have Flight 815 experiencing a mostly uneventful flight. We see Desmond as a passenger and then he is gone. Other things of notice were Boone travelling alone and Hurley stating that nothing bad ever happens to him.
Also, Charlie who instead of getting high in the toilet..... ended up choking on his drugs which got him saved by Jack and arrested by the Police.

We also see that the Island appears to be intact and completely submerged in the ocean. When they flew over the exact Island coordinates Jack seemed to experience a deja vous type feeling.

During Island reality Sawyer makes it to the bottom of the hatch, Juliet is almost dead, and she reveals that she did set off the bomb and she dies before she could give him some extremely important information. Sawyer and Miles bury her. Miles reads her dead body at Sawyer’s insistence and says simply, “It worked. It worked.”
John Locke who is also the smoke monster wants to go home.

Back to the Alternate reality.....Sun does not help Jin out at customs, Jack’s fathers body goes totally missing, Kate escapes from the marshall by getting into a cab with Claire and getting away.

Sayid who has been shot gets brought to the temple.... then he is drowned ..... and then he becomes alive again.
The Temple People demand to see Sayid alone.
Sawyer gets a gun and says he’s out for himself and wanders off into the jungle.
This disturbs the Temple people because they need everyone to stay there.
Kate, Jin and 2 temple people go off to retrieve Sawyer and bring him back.

The main temple dude and the Hippie Dude secure Sayid to a table and torture him by various means and then tell "him" he passed the test but to themselves they said he so did "not" pass the test. .

Jack demands to know what they did to Sayid and they explain they were diagnosing because he is infected in some sort of mystical way. The temple guys give Jack a capsule and ask Jack to give it to Sayid.
Jack ends up taking the pill which the main temple dude heimlichs out of him and states it is poison.

Meanwhile......
In the new alternate reality, Kate escapes from the Marshall and hijacks a taxi that happens to contain Claire on her way to meet the couple that will adopt her baby.
The cab driver escapes at a traffic light and Kate takes control of the car and forces Claire to get out.
Kate goes to a mechanic with gun in tote to get her cuffs removed.
She ends up looking through Claire’s luggage.
She sees it’s full of baby stuff and she feels bad, so she
goes back and upon finding Claire she offers to drive her to her destination.
Upon arrival at the adoptive parents they learn that the parents have just split
up so they no longer want the baby. Claire becomes outraged ..... then she is in labour. Kate takes her to the hospital, where in this timeline Ethan (Tom Cruise cousin) is a happy well adjusted doctor who stops her labour.
The cops come and Claire lies about Kate’s whereabouts.

During island reality...... Kate runs away from Jin and the Temple people and catches up to Sawyer who is in his house taking something from a box.
Kate apologizes to Sawyer for her role in Juliet’s death and says she came back to find Claire, for Aaron.
Sawyer says he was going to ask Juliet to marry him and throws a ring in the ocean.

Back at the Temple...... the 2 men continue trying to convince Jack to give Sayid the poison. They explain that when the poison reaches his heart, that the Sayid they know will be gone. They tell Jack that they know because that’s what happened to his sister. Hmmmmmm......

Jin en route back to the temple encounters his former captor, who is about to kill him when he is killed. Jin turns around to see who shot his enemy, and it’s Claire! Hmmmmmmm.......

It appears that Claire is alive and kinda crazy. She is looking for her baby, and will hurt anyone to find him. We observe this first hand when she uses an axe to kill one of the other others.
Jin initially tried to stop Claire by telling her that Aaron is safe, with Kate, off the island. He then changes his mind upon watching the Other get the axe and says Aaron is safe at the temple.
Claire is quite relieved and during this scene John appears at their camp. Claire informs Jin that “it’s not John.......No no no, ha ha ha…THIS is my FRIEND.”

In the Alternate Universe, Jack is a sad, divorced man with a son who hates the legal visits bestowed upon him. We learn that Jack knows nothing about his son is currently attempting to connect with his son.

During one scene Jack breaks into his ex-wife’s house and finds information in his sons room to indicate he’d be performing that night. Jack looks at his watch and practically runs to make it on time. After his amazing performance, another proud father tells Jack how talented David is…and lo and behold its the main Temple Dude.

Later in the evening Jack expresses his pride to David, and how he didn’t know the kid was keeping up with his piano playing.
His son explains that he promised his mom not to share this with his father, because he’s always felt like his dad is overly critical. Since Jack recently has been thinking about similar experiences with his own father, he completely empathizes with his son and it looks like they’re beginning to form a new relationship.

Meanwhile back on the Island reality....
Hurley (who can see dead people) can see Jacob, and Jacob instructs Hurley to fetch Jack and go find a certain landmark. Hurley decided to go to it on his own but Jacob insists it’s a job for two and Jack must be there. He gives Hurley some verbal incentive to pass along to Jack. Hurley does this and Jack bites, just as Jacob predicted.

The two of them journey to a large lighthouse and climb atop of it and start to turn the mirrors to a specific degree/co-ordinate. The magic numbers are also there, and next to each number is a name. Jack spots his his own name and he insists that Hurley start turning the equipment to line it up with Shepherd. In the mirrors, Jack sees an image of his childhood home which drives him over the edge and he destroys all the mirrors. Jack and Hurley sit outside the lighthouse when Jacob makes another appearance. He assures Hurley that all is fine, the new islander will find a way to arrive anyway. Hurley realizes that the whole point was for Jack to see that lighthouse/mirror setup.

Song Of The Day: My Girl By The Temptations

This is for my girl, Alley........Happy Birthday sweet pea.

Alley Turns Ten

"If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. I’ll always be with you." ~ Winnie the Pooh
She is a force of nature. Today she turns 10. Hard to believe that 10 years ago we were welcoming our 2nd child into the world. Let me tell you about Alley. She is the one who will keep us young. She has the biggest heart of any child I have ever seen and will leap to anyone's aid without a thought. She is so full of love, that sometimes it boils over into a temper tantrum when we don't understand what it is she wants/needs to do.
Mark my words.......... Alley will change the world. I don't know how, but I am pretty sure one of my big purposes on the earth is to make sure she makes it safely to adulthood, so that she can do whatever it is she is meant to do.

Later on, he made the title track to his 2001 album Cuttin' Heads about an interracial relationship.
