Weekend Recap

This weekend marks the end of my respite from work. The pages are turning in my book of life and I am moving on to a new chapter. Tomorrow morning I return to the working world. So this weekend was one full of fun and family. Saturday we decided to venture downtown to celebrate the Fabulous Fifties Festival and check out all the vintage cars. Saturday evening we settled in and watched "Bucket List" which was just what I needed to keep my spirits lifted during this period of apprehension.
Sunday, we spent the day hanging with my parents, brothers, sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. A fun time was had by all as we enjoyed a barbecue, played badminton, swam, rocked out on Guitar Hero and enjoyed smores around the evening campfire.

Remembering Scary Things

When I was a young girl, I had a nightmare about little green monsters that climbed through my window each night to take me away.

I was also convinced that a monster lived under my bed and that if I were to dangle my arm over the edge of my bed, he would grab me by the wrist and pull me under the bed with him.

It became a part of my night time ritual to check under my bed each night to ensure it was monster free. One of my brothers soon discovered this as part of my night time routine and thought it would be funny to hide under my bed and wait to surprise me when I peeked. I can still remember how startled I was.

Children Do Not Give Unconditional Love

There's a stunning twist to the sudden rise in teen pregnancies at Gloucester High School. Seventeen students there are expecting and many of them became that way on purpose.

Time Magazine first reported that nearly half of the girls confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. None of them is older than 16.

Buy these girls a puppy!!

Birthday Idea For Garth

The Pursuit Of Happiness

This segment was originally broadcast on Feb. 17, 2008. It was updated on June 12, 2008.
It made me wonder......
Is happiness related to attitude?
Why do people think that they need to be happy all of the time?
Is this what happens to society when we are constantly being fed ads, television shows and commercials telling you that there is something wrong with you if you aren't constantly happy?
Are we becoming an overmedicated society as we seek "constant" happiness?

"Take Me Out To The Ballgame" Turns 100

"Take me out to the ball game,Take me out with the crowd.Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,I don't care if I never get back,Let me root, root, root for the home team,If they don't win it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,At the old ball game."

ESPN's Baseball Tonight is celebrating the centennial of the tune "Take me out to the ballgame" with an online Battle of the Bands competition. Each night a musician performs the classic on TV, and the video then goes online. Users vote for their favorites, and a winner will be declared July 13.

One Funny List

I love reading lists.
Over at the website Holy Taco, a writer has listed a fairly accurate (IMHO) list of 14 songs you should never play in a bar.
As the writer states,"there’s nothing worse than having a perfectly good drinking session ruined by a song that either doesn’t belong in a bar, has been crammed down your ears too many times, or just plain sucks."
I particularly enjoyed his pretty accurate descriptions of who would play the song

Cool Decorations For A Kids Room

Blik, is a company that sells a variety of pop-culture designs that can easily (and cheaply) change a room. They have recently added Nintendo wall designs to its offerings. Now you can make any room in your home look like a game of Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs

You try to do one good thing and find out you’re doing three bad things. I am feeling conflicted.

Everyday Tools

There are basic everyday items that I would almost feel lost without. Some are high-tech and others are low-tech, but these are items that I almost can’t do without (or have at least convinced myself that I can’t do without) in my daily life.

Laptop Computer
Internet
Coffee
Comfortable Clothing
Automobile
Sunglasses
Watch
Water

I asked Garth and he replied......"my family, hairspray and my father-in-law."
What are your basic needs?

Bouncing Tires

How do you explain this to your insurance company?

Incredible Photo

An Iowa woman snaps a stunning close-up of a looming funnel cloud. I find it unbelievable that she stuck around to grab her camera and think this might be a good photo opportunity. Definately a defining moment.

Jesus And The Dinosaurs

This made me laugh. If you follow the colour code at the bottom of the page, my bathroom is painted in the shade.......flesh of Christ.

Weekend Recap

This weekend I was on a mission......a mission to spend some leisure time with my family.
My weekend consisted of trying to keep cool with water fights, workouts at the gym, hanging out in the backyard with friends, celebrating Fathers Day watching the Blue Jays get their ass beat by the Chicago Cubs, dinner at the Marche (Richtree), watching "Jumper" and "The Prestige." I liked Jumper better than I thought I would. The Prestige was just okay for me. I preferred the "Illusionist" but Garth preferred this flick.
Mission accomplished!!!
