Some refer to this as Saltine toffee but I call this gem of a recipe Carmelitas. When I make it for the folks at work they call it crack because it is so damn addictive.
Ingredients:
Saltine Crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 pkg. milk chocolate chips (I like to mix this w/ half of semi-sweet)
chopped nuts.....such as walnuts or pecans (optional)
Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheet with foil. Lay out saltine crackers evenly on foil. Boil butter and brown sugar in a saucepan until hard for 2 minutes. I stir mine when it is boiling.
Pour evenly over saltine crackers when done. Bake for 5 minutes or until bubbling. Remove from oven and pour chocolate chips on top. As they melt, spread evenly and sprinkle with nuts. We only put nuts on 1/2 of it.
When completely cool, break into pieces. To cool, place in fridge, or freezer, or outside, if it is cold where you live. It must be completely cool.
Enjoy and try not to eat the whole pan :)

Amazing Bikerider
Back in my days of youthful youth.....my husband and I liked to mountain bike and Garth and my dear friend were a part of a mountain bike club called "Ass over Tea Kettle." I was a member by connection to some of the members and every once in a while they would take me out on some of their trail rides. I am proud to say that some of these rugged terrains had some challenges that I was able to get through on a hope and prayer. Those were fun days. I remember doing a jaunt with my Hubby and brother one afternoon from Brantford to Cambridge and back. I have a real appreciation for this dude as he journies from Edinburgh back to his hometown Dunvegan, in the Isle of Skye.

Funny Animal Voiceovers
During the halftime show at a recent University of Hawaii football game, the individual band members formed the shape of a stick-figure football player that was as tall as the field is wide. Then the stick-figure ran in slow-motion across the field and “kicked” a giant football.

This Day In History.......Fun Facts
I think we know the most obvious thing being celebrated today is Christmas, where traditionally people celebrate the birth of Christ.
As some people break away from the religious connection to the holiday it has also been a day and season to spend with family and friends and to recognize the needs of others and Christmas is a time that you can see love put into action all around. There are many volunteers working for the sake of others through the Season. These volunteers stand in the malls and the cold for hours and ring the bell repetitively for donations. The food banks are filled nationwide for those in need of a Christmas meal on their table.
Some other noteworthy things about this day.....
1964 James Bond Goldfinger premiers in the U.S. It was 3rd in the James Bond series and starred Sean Connery as 007.

Song Of The Day: Sometimes You Have to Work On Christmas By Harvey Danger
I have to work this Christmas. I am on 12 hour nights on the 24th,25th and 26th.
Nursing is one of those careers, just like most of the “helping” professions where someone has to work the holidays.
Many of us are conditioned to believe that this single day ....Christmas Day ....will produce the perfect day with laughing families, grateful children and restored relationships. The reality is that rarely happens. It is just another day, maybe even a stressful day, made harder by broken promises, unrealistic expectations and a touch of old fashion family tension.
Even though celebrating Christmas on Christmas Day is special in many ways, nurses don’t have to dread working the holiday shift.
I am going to be thankful that I have a stable job and that I have an income to help pay for the basics and also some gifts for my loved ones.
I am going to look forward to the potluck we have planned on Christams Eve. I am going to be festive with my coworkers and be mindful that I am not alone.
I am going to arrange special family time throughout the Holiday Season.
I am going to be aware that working the holiday is an opportunity to show the true spirit of Christmas to your coworkers, family and patients.

Did You Know That Doogie Howser Is Feuding With Victor Newman
Apparently last week Neil Patrick Harris took a swipe at Eric Braeden, calling him a “D-bag” for skipping out on an appearance on his show, “How I Met Your Mother”.
In case you weren’t aware of who Eric Braeden is, he played Victor Newman on “The Young And The Restless” for a long time. He also played the part of Robin’s father on “HIMYM”.
Neil tweeted, “Eric Braeden is a D-Bag. the actor, (Robin’s dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough.”
Apparently, that caused Eric to run to “Entertainment Weekly” to discuss the matter. In response, he said, “I really don’t know who that fellow is. He’s a guy who stars in that series. It’s very unfortunate. First of all, I came back from hip surgery. I was off for three weeks. I’ve doubled my work, 30 to 50 pages a day for me, alone. Everyone knows that I’m exhausted. I was not about to appear on a show for two lines, because that’s what it amounted to.”
“Entertainment Weekly” reports:
Braeden originally agreed to take the gig because he enjoyed his first appearance on the CBS comedy in November 2008. “I truly enjoyed working there last time,” Braeden said. “The cast and crew and producers couldn’t have been nicer.”
As for Harris, “His choice of words bothered me,” Braeden added. “It seems to me like a young whippersnapper, having seen himself on a few covers, who’s received a few awards, is now suddenly suffering from the first signs of hubris. I’ve been in the business for 50 years. I’ve seen people come and go and I’m still here.”
Braeden ultimately laughed off the whole situation. “If he is a worthy adversary, he’d better not cross my path. I will let bygones be bygones.”
Neil has since taken to his Twitter to apologize, saying, “Now I feel bad for the D-bag comment. Don’t know the guy personally. I’m just fiercely protective of our show. Jpk”
Can’t we all just get along???

Juicy Couture Has A New Type Of Fan
According to CEO of Juicy Couture, Edgar Huber, they’ve had to close the Fifth Avenue Store because of bed bugs.
Edgar sent out an email to his staff, laying out their plans to rid themselves of the infestation:
As you may be aware we have temporarily closed the 5th Avenue location due to the discovery of bed bugs.
Our top priority is to protect our associates and our customers and we are moving swiftly and aggressively to address the problem. We expect to re-open the store later in the week and will keep you updated when we have specifics around the re-opening.
At this time there have been no other locations identified with this issue but we will continue to take all necessary precautions.
The company has also issued an official statement, directing customers to their website or another location so that there’s no interruption in business:
We wanted to inform the public and our consumers that we have temporarily closed the Juicy Couture Store at 650 Fifth Avenue due to the discovery of bed bugs.
Like other major retailers recently impacted by this issue, we are moving swiftly and aggressively to address the problem. We expect the store to re-open later this week.

Question Of The Moment
Every once in a while I will randomly send out a (text question) via my mobile phone to a few of my contacts who like to keep me entertained when I engage them in this silly banter. The most recent question was where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Here are a few of the random answers I received :
"I see myself in University for a career in writing or psycology."
"I see myself having written my book on the theory of life, have 2 adopted kids and an adopted monkey, living in Durham region with the man I'm supposed to be living with in my dream home from that I bought with the profits of my book. i will be driving Shelby and still working as an RN in Whitby."
" I am going to be forensic psychiatrist."
" I'm going to be in the movies."
" I will be broke, putting my kids through University."
I had a few other answers that were too sick and disturbing to mention.......right Briannna?
Feel free to leave your answer here.
Lack Of Insight
Many patients and their families, who seek treatment at a psychiatric/mental health unit of a hospital expect the doctors and nurses to change their lives and make all of their problems disappear. Somehow they’ve gotten the idea that we have a magic wand in our back pocket and that by waving it, we can make their troubles go away. Even tho' we offer them hope through the use of medications and talk therapy....... there are some things that just cannot be fixed.
