Book Club Read: Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer
I am enjoying this months read and am glad that I have not yet viewed the film as I generally subscribe to the notion that you should never judge a book by its movie.
Into the Wild (1996) by Jon Krakauer is a bestselling non-fiction book about the adventures of Christopher McCandless. We read about how McCandless' personality is possibly influenced by the writings of Leo Tolstoy, Henry David Thoreau, and McCandless' favorite writer, Jack London. My parents have a copy of Jack Londons classic novel, "Call of the Wild." I remember always thinking to myself, I should read that but never did. I have become intrigued with Jack London and did some online investigation to learn about his interesting life.
A film based on the book "Into the Wild", received a limited release in September 2007 and a wide release the following month. The film was directed by Sean Penn, and Eddie Vedder (lead singer of Pearl Jam) contributed several solo efforts to the soundtrack.

RIP: Paul Newman
Paul Newman died Friday at age 83 at his long-time home in Westport, Connecticut, and with his passing, more has been lost than just a good and fine man. When I read the news of Mr. Newman's passing this morning, I actually felt a loss for a man I never met but have admired for decades. This article helped me to more fully understand the scope of his career and more importantly the character of this great man whom I am sure will continue to inspire other actors and charitable acts.

Stigma Is A Reality For People With A Mental Illness
The granddaughter of Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery has revealed her famous relative committed suicide.
I'm glad her family decided to be honest about it. I loved the Anne of Green Gables books when I was growing up.
There Is Never Enough Johnny
Johnny Depp is making a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
What excites me the most from this newstory is that he will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of "Alice in Wonderland."
This Is Not A Good Idea
A musical stage version of American Psycho is in the works.
I loved the book and the film but I can not see this actually working on the stage.
Song Of The Day: All I Want Is You By U2
I love this video in which a little person (played by a not-yet-famous Peter Dinklage) working as a circus freak appears to kill himself over his impossible love for a trapeze artist.
There is disagreement amongst fans about exactly who has died, Edge was quoted as saying it is the trapeze artist who dies.
Glen Campbell covered the song on his 2008 CD of cover tunes Meet Glen Campbell.

I Am 88% Interesting
Are you interesting or boring?
Here are my results:
Here are my results:
You Are 88% Interesting |
Believe it or not, you are a very fascinating person. You're probably too busy being interesting to realize exactly how interesting you are. You have a rich, full life. You are curious about the world, and you are very open to new experiences. You have a lot to talk about, and people find you to be an amazing conversationalist. And most importantly, you are truly interested in other people. How could anyone find that boring? You truly listen and learn from others. You're not self absorbed or shallow. |

Of course he is probably slanted in hisview and he's going to want these kids to vote Democrat, but I don't see how you can fault him for trying to get more young people to get out there and vote.

I Love Green Tea & You Should Too
In the last year, I am making conscientious choices for what I put into my body. I have developed a love for Green tea and my favorite brand and flavor is Stash Green Chai Spice.
Green tea has increasingly become a very popular drink worldwide because of its immensely powerful health benefits.
It is extraordinarily amazing what green tea can do for your health.
And if you're not drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea today, you're definitely NOT doing your health a big favor. (Source: Beautiful World)
Here Are The 25 Reasons Why You Should Start Drinking Green Tea Right Now:
1. Green Tea and Cancer

This helps your body at protecting cells from damage believed to be linked to cancer.

Even after the heart attack, it prevents cell deaths and speeds up the recovery of heart cells.

What this means it helps you fight against aging and promotes longevity.

Song Of The Day: Four Strong Winds By Neil Young
I love this version with Neils wife singing backing vocals and his sweet harmonica playing.
This song is referenced in one of my favorite novels, "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. The narrator reflects how, Owen, loved to hear that song as sung by the character of Hester.
The song is based on the life of transient farm workers, forced to move where work can be found, but its theme is the sometimes temporary nature of human relationships.

Hurricane Ike devastation in Texas
Hurricane Ike wreaked a great deal of havov that affected several countries including Cuba, Haiti, and the United States. Ike is blamed for approximately 114 deaths (74 in Haiti alone), and damages that are still being tallied, with estimates topping $10 billion. Many shoreline communities of Galveston, Texas were wiped from the map by the winds. These photos reveal some of the hardship and fury.

RIP: Richard Wright
Richard Wright, the founding member of Pink Floyd whose piano and synthesizer work played a critical part in the pioneering British psychedelic rock band's ethereal sound, died Monday after a short battle with cancer, his spokesman said. He was 65.
This past Christmas I watched him perform with Gilmour during David Gilmour's solo concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2006. I remember my husband commenting on how thin and frail he looked then. Only two members of the original Floyd left, another generation of rock is passing. Truly sad!
Say It Isn't So!!!
Pink is in the beginning stages of checking out the religion of Scientology, and it seems she has really taken to it and wants to get more involved.

Song Of The Day: 100 Years By Five For Fighting
The song is about a man who is 99 and about to turn 100, who looks back at his life to see whether he really "lived" it or not. The song's main theme is to never take life for granted, and all of the time we have on Earth is right now, so we should make the most of it.

A Big Revelation On 90210
Song Of The Day: Thank You By Dido
In the music video for this song, Dido has not paid her bills, and the government comes to tear down her house. The construction workers put an eviction notice on her door and move her things out. Dido, who is partly oblivious to the fact that her house has been barricaded, is simply singing the song. In the end, she is escorted out of her home and is forced to walk the streets with a backpack and suitcases in town.
The end of the video implies that her house is being torn down because it was built before the big city district was built (her home is sandwiched between two large skyscrapers).
Dido actually wrote this song herself as a tribute to her boyfriend Bob; they got engaged in 2001 but this engagement did not last long and they broke apart the following year
