Meet Fred

Fred's videos are currently the 4th most popular on YouTube. This video, for example, has been viewed by more than 1.2 million people. Should I be disturbed that my 11 year old finds him fascinating and funny?

The first thing about Fred is that he brings new meaning to the word hyper. The fictional 6-year-old, invented and played by 14-year-old Nebraskan Lucas Cruikshank, is a fast-talking tyke with "temper problems," an absentee father and a propensity to screech if things don't go his way. If those traits aren't enough to dissuade you, Fred's voice is 'chipmunked,' raising it several octaves above Cruikshank's own to achieve, if not maximum verisimilitude, then certainly maximum annoyingness.

We attended birthday celebrations on Sunday afternoon and I thought I would bring some yummy treats. Here are the two recipes. Both were easy and good but this one received rave reviews.

Easter Eggs To Look For In WALL-E

Pixar is known to fill their films with fun easter eggs and WALL-E is no different. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

The Pizza Planet Truck: The truck has appeared in every Pixar movie since Toy Story (although its pretty hard to find in The Incredibles as its pretty much a blur in a car sequence). “The Pizza Planet actually has a very obvious shot, it’s just probably so quick people aren’t paying attention to it.” The truck can be found in the first 20-minutes of the film as EVE scans the truck as part of her “directive”. It’s really big, almost the full frame on screen.

Hammy: The character John Ratzenberger voiced in Toy Story appeats in WALL-E’s truck. See the photo below, Hammy can be found right to the left of EVE’s head. John Ratzenberger has been in every Pixar film and is considered their good luck charm. Ratzenberger voices one of the few human characters in WALL-E whose name is also John.

A113: What started as an inside joke of CalArts alumni (a reference to the classroom number that was used by Animation students) has been present in not only every Pixar film, but Disney movies, Iron Giant, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Powerpuffgirls and Tinytoon Adventures. “A-113 is obvious in this film,” Stanton told /Film. “It’s the most obvious we’ve ever made it.” In Wall-E, A-113 is actually part of Auto Pilot’s “directive” outlined by BuyNLarge CEO Shelby Forthright’s (Fred Willard) video recording. “Directive A-113” is also one of the tracks composed by Thomas Newman for the WALL-E soundtrack.

Orange Caution Cones: The Orange Cones from Toy Story can be found all over abandoned earth, and inside WALL-E’s truck. See photo below

Return To Work: Week One

I have successfully completed my first week and it was a walk in the park. It felt good. I think I could get used to 4 hour shifts :)
I will continue to work 4 hour shifts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next 3 weeks and then I'll begin on a 6 hour stint. Slow and steady really does win the race.

Monday was mainly spent catching up on my Emails which I have yet to complete. I had a years worth of this crap. I also spent time getting refamilar with patients and environment. There have been a number of changes within the last year. 50% of my Emails read, "your mailbox has been closed as it is full." Well I guess so!! I also had to get tested and refitted for my protective respiratory mask. I like my new one much better as it is more flattering to my complexion with its turquoise colour.

Wednesday I did my CPR recertification as I was overdue. There have been changes since I last got my certification which I was aware of....... but it is nice learning it fresh from the instructor. Did you know the new ratio for chest compressions to respirations is 30:2?

Friday was the most interesting of my days, I was actually given some hands on patient care which I was thirsting for. I was able to attend a staff meeting to get me up to speed on some of the recent administrative changes about to or already taking place. But the best part, I was offered a new position by my boss. She pitched the idea to me this afternoon and told me to give it some thought. It means instead of doing shiftwork and weekends, I would work Monday to Friday 8-3:30 (or whatever hours work best for me.) I think she saw some reservation in my eyes and left it with me to process. I was directed to get back to her within a month.......hmmmm......time to make a pro/con list.
Overall, my energy has been still on the upswing and I was able to still make it to the gym three times this week. I took my pedometer to work with me and I met my goal of 10,000 steps each day. So far, so good.

Severn Suzuki Speaking At UN Earth Summit 1992

My cousin Sabrina sent me this gem of Severn Suzuki, who spoke at UN Earth Summit in 1992. She is nearly 30 now. I wonder what she thinks of our progress or not.

Tooth Tattoos

The Heward Dental Lab in Salt Lake City specializes in “dental tattoos,” which are actually custom hand-painted crowns. Owner and main artist Steve Heward is a traditional oil painter too. The artwork on a crown costs between $75 and $500.

Sopranos DVD Deal

TV Guide is reporting that the complete series of The Sopranos will be available as a box set on Nov. 11, 2008, with a $400 price tag.

The individual seasons of The Sopranos sell for $60 each on the HBO Web site, and the complete series was released last year for $515.

The 30-disc boxed set will feature all six seasons; an interview with series creator David Chase, conducted by Alec Baldwin; three soundtrack CDs; and two featurettes with the cast sitting down for dinner and reflecting on the series.

It still seems pricey to me.

Jamie Lee Curtis Has Issues

Recently I wrote of my love for the Magazine titled "More."
There is a Canadian and American version.
The American version is going to be
featuring Jamie Lynn Curtis as she embraces her fifties.
They will be holding a contest asking readers to submit photos and videos demonstrating whatever F-word describes them best, whether it's "funny," "family," "fearless," etc.(The original F-word isn't allowed.) The winner gets $1,000.
Here are some photos of Curtis demonstrating her favorite F-words

I admire Curtis' healthy and happy approach to life but in recent months she is becoming "extremely" vocal regarding her aging issues.
While they are a nice contrast to some of the surgically enhanced women we see on many films and TV shows I hope she is not just seeking out media attention and is truly sincere.
I am always weirded out by people who take any issue to the extreme.
This Saturday Night Live Skit says it all:

This Would Make Roadtrips Fun

I want this.

I think it should also play the Knight Rider theme as you're driving along the highway, even if you're not actively using the unit and you should be able to customize the name it speaks when it addresses you.

Deal Of The Day
