Thirteen-year-old Taylor Whitty of Welland, centre, is flanked by head instructor Ben Vanderklok, left, and Tenders Goalie School program director Al Stoddard after winning the Alain Raby Award for bringing hard work, dedication and discipline to the goaltending position.

This morning Tribune carrier Taylor Whitty did more than deliver the news. He also was part of the news, making headlines after winning the Alain Raby Award at Tenders Goalie School in Fort Erie. The award honours the memory of a Welland Minor Hockey Association goaltender and Confederation student who was only 16 when he died last year after he was stricken with meningitis. Tenders program director Al Stoddard said in presenting the award that Whitty best exemplified Raby's hard work and the discipline and dedication he brought to the position.

At 13 and looking forward to going up to minor bantam when the next hockey season gets underway, Whitty never had the chance to meet Raby, who played in a higher division. "It's quite an honour to receive this award, I think it's great they are remembering him," he said of Raby. "That makes this extra special for me." Whitty, whose Tribune route in the Clare Avenue-Heritage Lane section of north Welland includes 28 customers, can't remember a time when he didn't want to be a goaltender. "I never wanted to play another position," added the son of Scott and Billie Joe who was five when he began making the crease his hockey home. While Whitty's favourite big league goalie now is Pittsburgh's Marc Andre Fleury, he couldn't recall wanting to emulate an NHLer when he first wanted to be his team's last line of defence. Mainly, it was the equipment that impressed him. It was, and is, so unlike what any other player wears. "The best thing about playing goal is the cool equipment," added Whitty, who is about to enter Grade 8 at Alexander Kuska. And the worst thing? "Lugging all of this stuff after the game," he said with a laugh.

Congratulations Taylor ........You make me proud!!! All your hard work and dedication is being recognized.

Big Brother Thoughts

Since Dick & Daniele have both been nominated by Jessica ,Dick want to assure the remaining house guests vote him out..........therefore his brilliant strategy is to get them to hate him.
In the beginning I found his antics amusing (grabbing a pot lid and a utensil and start banging early in the morning.)
Soon I found them annoying and watching a grown man act the way he was a tad embarassing. If I hear him make another smooching sound I will vomit and stop calling Dustin Princess.
Daniele is thr most spoiled little baby and I enjoyed watchint her flip out while crying and screaming about how it was so unfair that she was being judged for her father's actions and "so hard" and it "sucks so bad" and "It's not fair"

So Dick ends up winning the veto and takes Daniele off the block. Jessica ends up putting up Dustin. If Dick stays I will be pissed.

What My Life Cosists Of At This Moment

Liquid Morphine every 4 hours to control pain.

Club Soda to rinse my mouth and prevent infection and prevent phlegm from thickening.












Fluoride treatments nightly as my saliva production is reduced which makes me more susceptible to cavities.

The food I eat.

Sleep.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Water as my mouth is always dry.

Eyedrops as the radiation is starting to dry my eyes out and I wake up with my left eye sealed shut.

Saline soaks to the burns on my face and neck.

My toothpaste.

I have one more week of radiation and one more chemo appointment tomorrow. The end is in sight.
