Song Of The Day: Magic By B.O.B. featuring Rivers Cuomo

Bobby Ray Simmons also known as Bobby Ray, or B.o.B is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. I love the energy of this tune.

The Value Of A Nurse

Nursing is hard.
It can be overwhelming, frustrating, irritating, satisfying, thrilling, scary as hell, and sometimes hilarious.
Nurses need nurses. Every now and then I realize that there is a shortage of people I can talk to who would really understand what I did for a living. In one sense, it's like being a veteran or having lived through a natural disaster. Explaining the backstory for everything that happens would take too long for an everyday audience, and dilute the power of the stories.
Once you've had somebody die with your hands on them, or helped somebody heal your life changes. Your worldview is never quite the same
.

Nurses need to take care of each other. We need to take care of the students who depend on us to learn not to kill people. Students need to be shown all the cool shit we do, and how vital even the most boring stuff is, even at the same time they're shown why we still smile after years when we say "I'm a nurse."
Never say "I'm just a nurse." What we do is trench work...... difficult, dirty, sometimes heartbreaking, occasionally dangerous. It requires skill and brains and an ability to deal with the complexities of people every day on the job.
We need each other...for sharing knowledge, working as a team and watching each others backs.

Now pat your own for the job you do.
I'm proud to call you a colleague.

Happy Nurses Week!

Song Of The Day: Stole My Heart By Little & Ashley

Little is actually Annie Little while the Ashley part of the equation is the surname of Marcus Ashley. Apparently they met in Los Angeles on the open-mike circuit and started listening to music together while forming Little & Ashley.

Song Of The Day: 'Broken Radio' By Jesse Malin (ft. Bruce Spingsteen)

Malin released a covers album on 7 April, 2008 entitled On Your Sleeve, containing covers of songs by, among others, The Ramones, Sam Cooke, Neil Young and The Hold Steady, as well as a studio recording of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'." I like his sound I might have to pick this baby up.

Song Of The Day: Cry By Gayngs

This Indie group have not only gone and made a cover of the Godley & Creme classic, but paid ultimate tribute to these icons and did a video cover too (keep an eye out for a cameo by Godley himself.)

I must say I still prefer the original

Happy Nurses Week

In the spirit of Nurses Week, this made me chuckle.

Due to a labour shortage, three cannibals were hired as orderlies in a busy hospital. During orientation, the director of human resources said, “You’re all part of the team now. You can earn good money here and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat. So please don’t trouble any of the other employees.” The cannibals promised.

Four weeks later the boss returned and said, “You’re all working very hard, and I’m very satisfied with all of you. However, one of our nurses have disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?” The cannibals all shook their heads no. After the director left, the leader of the cannibals said to the others, “which one of you morons ate the nurse?”

A hand raised reluctantly, to which the leader of the cannibals replied, “You IDIOT!” For four months we’ve been eating hospital administrators and no one noticed a thing and then you had to go and eat a nurse!”

National Nurses Week is a chance to honor and recognize nurses for their huge contribution to healthcare.

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother's Day to all women this weekend! Here are a few quotes about mothers that I love.....

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

A daughter may outgrow your lap, but she will never outgrow your heart. ~Author Unknown

Song Of The Day: Blueberry Kisses By Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986. Gaga has been influenced by glam rock musicians such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as pop music artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. The Queen song "Radio Ga Ga" inspired her stage name, "Lady Gaga". She commented: "I adored Freddie Mercury and Queen had a hit called 'Radio Gaga'. That's why I love the name [...] Freddie was unique .......one of the biggest personalities in the whole of pop music."

The Dennis Dugan-directed comedy, opening June 25, is about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Song Of The Day: Gotta Be By Morgan Heritage

Morgan Heritage is a reggae band formed by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan.

Another Gem From My Dad

My father has been sending me some interesting you tube videos to check out. Sometimes it is his own thoughts that he shares with the video that I find more humourous. Here is am example............."Where's the fun if you have one of these? "

Transformation Of A Tiny Apartment

In Hong Kong, because of the space, apartments are small and expensive. Gary Chang, an architect, decided to design a 344 sq. ft. apartment to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls.

Song Of The Day: What To Say By Born Ruffians

Born Ruffians are a Canadian indie rock band, originally from the small town of Midland, Ontario.
I like this song of theirs that makes reference to getting things out directly rather than beating around the bush.

Blogging

It was sometime in 2005 when I first heard the word "blog", which I learned later on was short for web log, which, in essence.........was an online diary.

During that time, I was heavily into "Gawker" and "Defamer" which were blogs, of course, but not personal ones. I didn't know anyone who actually had a blog of his or her own.
And then I stumbled on a site called
Toronto Mike and I was hooked.

I was in love with this whole blogging concept. Me....... writing........ free........ free publishing. Who could say no to that?

So, in May of 2005, I found blogger, and my new site, "Jewelgurl" was born. I had a simple pink blogger template back then and about three readers. I still have a small following that has grown to an average of 20 regular readers/day.

People have asked me why I blog and I explain that I use my blog as a public and at the same time personal "backup brain" .... I can search for keywords later to find info I remember to have jotted down previously.

Family and friends read my stuff & comment which I like.

I blog because it encourages me to reflect on what I read and what I hear.

My blog acts as a repository for interesting things I've come across, but more importantly what I thought or felt about them at the time. You can keep meticulously organised set of bookmarks for pure links, but the thoughts and emotions accompanying them get lost.

The main reason I blog is because it is fun, and often cathartic.

Song Of The Day: One Last Look

This spunky track was recently used in a Ballys commercial.
