George Carlin, the edgy comedian and counterculture icon, died Sunday at the age of 71.

Weekend Recap

This weekend marks the end of my respite from work. The pages are turning in my book of life and I am moving on to a new chapter. Tomorrow morning I return to the working world. So this weekend was one full of fun and family. Saturday we decided to venture downtown to celebrate the Fabulous Fifties Festival and check out all the vintage cars. Saturday evening we settled in and watched "Bucket List" which was just what I needed to keep my spirits lifted during this period of apprehension.
Sunday, we spent the day hanging with my parents, brothers, sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. A fun time was had by all as we enjoyed a barbecue, played badminton, swam, rocked out on Guitar Hero and enjoyed smores around the evening campfire.

When I was a young girl, I had a nightmare about little green monsters that climbed through my window each night to take me away.

I was also convinced that a monster lived under my bed and that if I were to dangle my arm over the edge of my bed, he would grab me by the wrist and pull me under the bed with him.

It became a part of my night time ritual to check under my bed each night to ensure it was monster free. One of my brothers soon discovered this as part of my night time routine and thought it would be funny to hide under my bed and wait to surprise me when I peeked. I can still remember how startled I was.
