Why do weekends whiz by?

Had a great weekend with Hubby and my daughters. My youngest daughter A is finally on the mend after being sick with some sort of virus last week. She had been spiking a temperature so we kept her home from school on Friday. Unfortunately this meant she missed her end of the year field trip to the zoo. G and I spent time gardening and enjoying the backyard while the kids played in the pool. Friday evening we rented "The Woodsman," starring Kevin Bacon. Kevin plays the role of a middle age child molester, who is released from prison after serving his 12 year sentence. I would not recommend this film and found it difficult to get into. So, needless to say, G will be picking our next flick to view as I have been batting zero. Brooke and I spent the day on Saturday, having lunch and shopping at the mall. She is growing like a weed and I needed to get her a new bathing suit as she has outgrown the one I just got her in February. We had a successful day and managed to find her some other nice summer stuff. I think we managed to get everything on sale. Saturday evening we retreated downstairs to stay cool and watch "Indian Summer." This is a feel-good story about 8 friends revisiting the summer camp they attended 20 years earlier. It has a great cast and
an effective blend of drama and comedy. Sunday, G and I took the girls to the cinemas to see "The Perfect Man," with Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth. It was exactly what I expected, Cute and Cheesey. G, then treated us to a early dinner at East Side Mario's........Yummm. This evening we played volleyball with the kids and neighbours. Just 3 more schooldays.

Perfect sleeping weather

I am sitting here with the windows open and a cool breeze blowing. We have been having some sultry summer weather and tonight it actually feels cool and crisp.
Crisp as a new bedsheet. With that I am off to bed.

How do you spell Heaven?

G and I went away this weekend to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We had a wonderful time and were able to slow down the pace of our busy lives and just enjoy each others company. The resort we stayed at offered us much needed peace. I don't remember being that relaxed in avery long time. We spent time canoeing and enjoying Lake Galeairy. We ate like Kings and Queens. We rested liked babies. My parents were wonderful and agreed to babysit the kids for us. I think the girls had a nice time with their grandparents. I am still in relax mode until tomorrow.

A Sad Day

I worked two nightshifts this weekend. Saturday when I arrived to work, one of my patients whom I have known and nursed for the past 10 years or so was presenting as acutely ill. He was having great difficulty breathing and coughing up frank blood. He was perspiring heavily and his face was very diaphoretic. We were presented with quite a nursing challenge as this gentlemen required immediate medical intervention. The challenge is in the fact that this man is grossly psychotic and experiencing auditory hallucinations telling him that people are trying to kill and poison him. He was becoming increasingly agitated when any type of comfort or intervention was offered. This patient has violent and assaultive bhaviour when he believes he is in jeopardy. All 911 services came to our assistance in transferring this gentleman to a general hospital where he could receive more intensive assessment and intervention. He was admitted to their Intensive care unit with a diagnosis of pleual effusion related to pneumonia. I received a telephone call earlier this afternoon at home telling me this gentleman had passed away. I feel such a sense of unease with this. Was there something more that any of us could have done differently to prevent this outcome. I have so many unanswered questions. Hopefully I will learn more when I return to work on Wednesday.

Tonight I went to Parkwood with my daughters Brownie troop. It is a local tourist attraction. It is the estate of Samuel Mclaughlin, the founder of General Motors of Canada. Parkwood was his family home with his wife Adelaide and their five daughters for over 55 years. Through this tour you are able to have insight into his lavish lifesytle during the early 20th century. 30 rooms are available for view during the tour and still display original furnishings and collectibles. B really enjoyed the tour and was fascinated that they had an indoor pool and bowling alley. The guide let her lean on the wall along the corrider to demonstrate where there was a secret door. I think that was her favorite part.

I have been enjoying the finales to all of my reality shows and was sooo............. happy with the outcome of Survivor. Tom so deserved to win in the end but I would have much rather seen Ian sitting by his side than Katie. I loved everyone reminding Katie of what a lazy ass she was. Coby voted for her because he is a bitch himself. What was with Jeffs hair during the reunion show? I thought it was funny when he asked " Did anybody think I made Janu quit?" Coby then raises his hand and Jeff says "See? Nobody!" I must say Caryn has a great makeup artist. She looked great.

An Evening of Movies

Spent the evening watching 2 Dvd's with the family. We watched National Treasure and I must say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I sometimes find Nicholas Cage a little difficult to endure but tonight he didn't bother me. The supporting cast was quite varied from Harvy Keitel to Jon Voight. A good action flick with a good storyline.
We then took a break and got the girls settled into bed for the night. We then watched Saw. What a disturbing movie. Sort of had a feel to it similar to the movie Seven. I think it will be one of those movies that leaves me thinking about it for a few days.

My First Post

This will be my first attempt at blogging on my own site. I have spent the last two years being a voyeur of sorts and thought it was time I broadened myself. I will be posting on the daily things in my life..........family, work, televison, etc.
