This website analyzes the fictional medical cases on the TV show House. I can't wait to explore this site further.

Indana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

We went to the opening night of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have said they made this film for themselves, not for the fans. Lucas himself said in an interview that many fans are going to be disappointed because they hold the series up on a pedestal and nothing could live up to everybody's vision of what it should be, so he plans on making a film that he, Spielberg, and Ford enjoy and he hopes the fans will come along for the ride.
Personally, I enjoyed it.

I saw that they were focusing on a different genre ..........1950s sci-fi instead of 1930s and I accepted this. There are some definite flaws but the spirit is spot on and I got charged up watching Garth enjoy this nostalgic ride. He actually looks younger to me when I watch him watch these beloved movies of his youth. I also thought Cate Blanchett was a great villan.

Keeping in the spirit of the fun, here are 20 fun facts about Indiana Jones

Song Of The Day: Pork And Beans By Weezer

The Doritos Quest

This month Doritos kicked off a new viral game with unmarked "mystery flavor" bags of chips. To start the quest, you can either buy a bag of Doritos and do a taste test or go here and guess the flavor. (They give lots of hints, so it's not so hard.)
The first clue unlocks the game, and one grand-prize winner receives $100,000.

American Idol

It is a knockout!!! David Cook wins by 12 million. Yeah!!!!
I bet David A is offstage at present drinking from his whiskey flask and smoking a reefer while uttering profanities. No more Mr. Nice guy. I loved the segment with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.

Sad News For The Kennedys

American Idol Live Blogging........continues

David Cook - The World I Know.............I love this Collective Soul tune and he sang this well. I am glad he is not shortchanging us and singing a song that he has already sung.

David Archuleta - Imagine............Little David goes the safe route and sings a fan favorite. I am sick bored of him and his ballads.

I am also sick of the judges pimping Little David.
See ya' tomorrow.

American Idol Live Blogging........continues

Songwriters Choice:

David Cook - Dream Big................Great job. He was able to show off his pipes. Beautiful!!!

David Archuleta - In This Moment........Yawn!!! The screaming from the audience drowned his prepubescent vocals.

Simon is trying very hard to steer the win to David Archuleta. This is the very reason I am beginning to despise this show.

Clive Owens Choice:

David Cook - Still Haven't Found What I’m Looking For .................I enjoyed it.

David Archuleta - Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me...............Unfortunately, it was a good performance.

David Archuleta won the coin toss and elected to sing second. Historically My sources reveal that every winner has gone second except for Ruben. Its not looking good for David Cook.

Movie Review: Waterhorse - Legend Of The Deep

This was a heart warming film that was enjoyed by the whole family. It reminded me alot of E.T. The story revolves around young Angus who is a shy, strange little boy living on the shores of a Scottish lake in the early days of World War II. His father has been off fighting for quite a while, and Angus finds a friend in the loveable baby sea critter he rears from a pup as it grows from manageable just-post-egg-size to rather less hideable Loch Ness-monster-size. We watched this on Blu-Ray and it was visually stunning.

Amputee Sprinter Oscar Pistorius Allowed To Compete In Beijing

Oscar Pistorius, a double-amputee sprinter known as the fastest man on no legs, will be allowed to compete at the Beijing Olympics after a ban on his prosthetic limbs was overturned today.
The South African 400 metre runner had been forbidden from competing alongside able-bodied athletes because his high-tech carbon fibre blades were thought to give him a mechanical advantage. (Don't top of the line shoes also give you this type of advantage?)
But today the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the 21-year-old South African blade-runner is eligible to race against Olympic athletes, ending the ban imposed by the IAAF.

This is the craziest thing I've seen in a long time. For those of you in the 21st century (e.g. blackberryowners), you'll need to look at this on a pc. You also have to get out of your seat and walk away from your computer. People may think you're crazy. But it's well worth it.
When you look at this picture in a closer look you see its Albert Einstein. But if you stand 15 feet away, it will become Marilyn Monroe. Give a try.

My Thoughts On Lost (Spoilers)

This episode rocked!!!!
My curiousity is piqued to find out how Sun and Aaron are rescued and reconnected with the other members of Oceanic 6.
I felt for Kate and Sayid when they came off the plane and there were no family members to greet them. I love how Hurley grabbed Sayid and his family embraced him.
I can't believe that upon Hurleys return his family throw him an island themed party.
The best line of the night goes to Hurleys mom........"Jesus Christ is not a weapon."
Last week we saw a device that was strapped to Keamy's arm.Is that the detonator for the massive amount of explosives on the freighter?
The others are back. Wild!
I loved the scene between Su and her father. She tells her father that there were 2 people responsible for Jin's death and that he is one of them. Who is the other?
What a great scene when Claires mom was staring at her grandchild and didn't even know it.

Link Love: Mixwit

I have been having fun over at Mixwit.

I threw this one together quickly, but I think this could get fun as it has several options available ie. skin changes, etc.
Think of all the possibilites.

Book Review : Shadow Divers

Last month I joined a local book club and had such a great experience reading the chosen book and engaging in dialogue surrounding its content. This week I will be attending meeting number two.

The greatest benefit of the book club is discovering a book you would have completely ignored or avoided is now one of the best books you've read all year. This months selection SHADOW DIVERS by Robert Kurson had me hooked by the second page.

The book is a non fiction adventure of two weekend scuba divers who risk everything to solve a great historical mystery surrounding the wreckage of a World War 2 German U-boat off the coast of New Jersey in 1991.

A film adaption of the book is currently in production and slated for a 2009 release.

I became so caught up in the saga of these determined men and the problems all divers face that it is high on my list of all time favorites. The determination of the men, the problems they faced trying to get to the submerged boat and the subsequent changes in their personal lives was riveting. It is not a subject matter that I thought I would enjoy reading about.

Best Buy Of The Day

Yesterday was the perfect sunshiny day. Sheila and I spent the day shopping in our favorite stores along Bloor St.
The radiation I received recently has permanantly destroyed the salivary glands on the left side of my mouth. Because of this I drink a copious amount of water and I must always have a water bottle within my reach.
I have been reading about how unhealthy it is to drink from the plastic H2O bottles and have been in the market for an alternative.
Yesterday I scored this from Pottery Barn.
It has kept my beverage chilled all day. I love that it is functional and cute.

American Idol Recap

David Archuleta - So It Goes.....................Ugh!!

Syesha Mercado - If I Ain’t Got You............I thought she sounded great.

David Cook - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.........I was very worried for him when Simon picked this song for him but he rose to the challenge and he conquered. It was beautiful.

David Archuleta - With You........Okay Chris Brown he is not. Why did he choose this song? You can tell his Dad is no longer by his side to give him guidance and direction.

Syesha Mercado - Fever.............I really think she is shining bright tonight.

David Cook -Dare You to Move............. It was okay.

David Archuleta - Longer............Ugh!!!! This guy is sooooooooo cheesy.

Syesha Mercado - Hit Me Up........Not bad. I am getting so frustrated by the judges criticisms. They so want this to be a David C and David A showdown at the finale.

David Cook - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing...........I hate that he has to sing short versions of songs. It hinders his performance and doesn't allow us to see his whole potential to rock out.

A Letter To My Daughters On Mothers Day

Dear Brooke and Alley,

I am many things.
A woman, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a dreamer, a life unfolding on a journey and of course a mother.
I am so many things.

Sometimes it may be hard for you to see all the pieces that make me complete..... all the pieces that are constantly pulling me in their different directions.
It may be hard for you to see because when you look at me you see one thing......your mother.
Everything I do, every choice, every action, you will see through eyes that view me as mommy...mama...mom...mother.

You'll be an adult one day and maybe one afternoon while you're watching your own child playing in the yard, you'll know you're right where you need to be.
You will realize that you used to be someone else and that life still calls you, you feel so much inside and you know you are so much more than your child will ever comprehend.
You will feel the past, present, and future all existing at one time within your soul.

I don't expect you to see me as anything more than your mother, not any time soon. But maybe one day the picture you carry around of me in your heart will become bigger, fuller, more whole and complete.

I am so many things.

I am your mother.

7 things I Want you to know about me.......

1. I still haven't mastered the parenting thing. I am learning as I go.

2. I'm one of those people who thrives on solitude, and a lot of it. So when I slip away to be alone, it's just my need to refuel myself.

3. When I was about 8 my mom dropped me off at the YWCA to board a bus for summer camp. I remember being so scared to walk onto that bus and say goodbye to my family for 2 weeks. I remember looking around, and wishing I could see just one other person who looked as intimidated as I felt, and never being able to find anyone.

4. I took organ lessons as a young girl. I never thought I was anygood but my mother loved to hear me play. I never could understand why. Now I know. A mother loves her child, mistakes and all.

5. My best friend is Garth. The fact that he also happens to be your father works out quite nicely.

6.I tell you all of these stories because I want you to know I am real. I'm human. I've been there...and I haven't forgotten.

7. I love you more than anything else in this world.

Race Quiz

Lots of people assume that race is obvious, clear-cut, easy-to-define.
Because of this, we often find it easy to place people in boxes, or assign racial labels that may or may not be accurate.

Usually, mislabeling amounts to nothing more than an awkward experience for one or both individuals involved. But in some contexts, such as in the medical field - where exam results, dignoses, and treatment plans may depend on racial categories - the results of mislabeling can be much more signficant such as missed diagnoses, incorrect diagnoses and/or inappropriate treatment protocols.

Take a look at the following famous faces and see if you can accurately identify their racial makeup.

I scored an embarrassing 43%.

My Thoughts On Lost( Spoilers )

So Jack and Kate are living together and we begin to see how Jack and Kate became estranged.

Another reference to "Alice in Wonderland" tonight. Jack was reading it to Aaron, just as his Dad read it to him as a kid.

Miles the ghost whispere could hear Danielle and Carl and he was horrified by what they told him. I need to know more.

We learn why Jin never makes it back to Koreas as he makes a deal with Charlotte. I love how he had her number and called her out.

What favor was Kate doing for Sawyer?

Jacks apendectomy scar was on the wrong side of the body as he was walking around Kate's apartment in the towel. Did Juliette remove his appendix or was she doing something else? In the words of Rose.... "people just don't get sick on that island."

Aaron has a Millenium Falcon. Is this symbolic?

Bernard reveals more skills this week. We learn he can now function in the operating room.

I missed Ben this week.

A Hard Day Comes To An End

Today has been a difficult day.
This morning after seeing the kids off to school, I spent a fairly uneventful morning of puttering about and settling into my usual routine.
Suddenly without provocation my mid back began to hurt very intensely. On a scale of a 1-10 with 10 being worst case pain, it rated about an 8. I tried to suck it up and took a Tylenol #3 and tried to sit back and let it start to take effect.
As suddenly as my back pain came on I began to develop cramping in my abdomen that radiated along my upper rib cage to my back. My abdomen was quite rigid, I was having heart palpitations and my body broke out in a sweat all over. I tried to make my way upstairs to rest but kept losing my balance and I felt like I was going to pass out.
Panic began to set in.
Garth was at school until noon. I was on my own.
I called my friend Corrine.........she was not home.
I called my friend Mike.............he was not home.
I called my friend Mark............he was not home.
Uh - Oh!!!! What do I do now?
I didn't want to risk driving myself as I was sure I was going to pass out.
I phoned my friend Kelly at work and she arrived within a few minutes to load me onto the white horse and deliver me to the local hospital.
After an afternoon of x-rays, EKG, blood work, etc. I was sent home with a diagnosis of muscle spasm in my back while my abdomen was trying to compensate. The palpitations and diaphoresis were a vasovagal response.
Holy Cannolli! Who ever knew the pain of that could be so intense? I am still not sure how this happened as I was not doing anything strenuous. I will say that once again I feel I am being reminded to pace myself as I have been living life like I am the energizer bunny.
