Weekend Recap

On Friday evening my daughter Alley attended a sleepover spa party and Garth, Brooke and I watched " Zapped." It was totally cheesy and painful at times but is a sentimental fave of my husbands. His best friend Mike and his brother called while we were watching it and they were excited and envious. I'm sure both will be adding this silly movie to their collection now that it is out on DVD.

Saturday afternoon I spent watching "Across the Universe." I thought this movie was brilliant and a clever way to journey through the 60's. Every Beatle song fit the story so naturally. Saturday evening Garth and I stepped out to celebrate a friends 60th birthday. It was nice to see people from work and be amongst friends.

Sunday was spent doing crafts, building snow forts and watching "Pirates of The Caribbean At Worlds End." It was unremarkable.

Today was another day of lounging and leisure. I spent the afternoon watching "Infamous" which I actually liked more than "Capote." Toby Jones performance is spot on as Truman Capote. I toyed with the idea of going shopping as some Malls were open but I refrained becuase I really like the idea of Family Day and believe that the corporate world can and should shutdown for a day to embrace the idea of spending time with family. With that being said, we did take the kids to Swiss Chalet for Family Day Dinner as it was free for all kids when accompanied with an adult.

My Thoughts On Lost( Spoilers )

So we see a bracelet on Naomi and on Sayids lady friend Elsa, in the flash forward........hmmmmm....so is Naomi's employer also Elsa's employer?

I loved when Jack said to Kate "Should I wait 20 minutes and then follow behind?" I like sarcastic Jack. I also liked when he asked if the Red Sox really won the world series.

I was blown away seeing that Sayid in the flash forward is working for Ben and his mission is to protect the Losties remaing on the island. Why is Ben working out of a vetrinary clinic? Both my husband and I recognized the voice initially as Christian Sheppard (Jacks dad.)

Are any of the other Oceanic 6 working for Ben as well?

Why can't Locke see Jacobs cabin anymore?

Clearly time travel or shifting is becoming part of the story line. When the payload is sent from the boat to the island it doesn’t hit the island when she says it does. When the payload does hit the island, we find that there is a timer of some sort inside. When Daniel compares this timer with the one he already had on the island, it is clear that there is a time difference between the island and wherever the boat is. This is further clarified when Daniel urges Frank to make certain that when he touches down on the boat, that he is 100% sure that it is the same boat that they came from.

I wonder how the families of the Autistic kids that Adam work with feel after hearing him refer to them as "RETARDS."

Why would Jacob strategically begin to target the power couple? Smooth move.....look where it got him.

I was surprised to hear that HOH host and hostess, Eric and Jessica are still together.

I'm thinking we should start a drinking game that we all have to have a shot of alcohol every time we see Amandas ass cheeks this season.

Valentines Day

It's Valentine's Day and my family and I celebrated in grand fashion. I cooked them their favorite dinner of 3 cheese manicotti and I baked this french vanilla cake with raspberry filling. I wanted the hearts to be frosted pink but I did not have red food colouring so of course I went for the Tiffany blue. We are now settling down to watch Lost. Overall it has been a great day.

Sheila is a rude cougar. I mean I don't think I would find Adam too endearing as he picks his nose and calls me "ma" either but she was a complete bitch. She is behaving like she has to have sex with him no matter what.

Allison is a reformed gambling addict......interesting.

I was surprised that the show decided to separate Ryan and Jenn (the real couple.)

Weekend Recap

I just spent my entire weekend doing what I love best. This icy, snowy weather has recently put me in the mood for movies. I made plans with Garth this weekend that I was going to go to the local video store and pick out films from my evergrowing list of movies to see. There's nothing better than bundling up in an afghan on the couch and watching DVDs while the snow falls. All of the movies I saw this weekend were quite enjoyable.

Bobby: This movie was directed and written by Emilio Estevez and is set on the day of the California Presidential Primary Elections in 1968. It concerns the lives of many people inside the Ambassador Hotel on the day Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated. Actual footage of Bobby Kennedy is spliced into the movie, mostly to give context to the times that the characters are currently living in. I thought the movie wonderfully recreated the ambience and issues of 1968 such as racism, war, love, voting, and women's rights. (8/10)

The Jane Austen Book Club: The story of five women and one man decide to start a book club, reading the works of Jane Austen. If you've read Austen's novels, you will obviously enjoy and pick up on the parallels in these book clubbers own lives. (6.5/10)

The Nanny Diaries: The story is about a young college woman who is in search of herself and a dream job. She ends up being a nanny to a young boy whose rich parents are too busy to help raise him. The real focus of this story is the dysfunction between the parents, and their ego-centric lifestyles that are more about themselves than their child. Laura Linney gives a great performance as the mother of the child. (6.5/10)

The Queen: This movie had no special effects, no violence, no blood or gore, no psychos, no disasters but it still held me captive. By the films end I viewed Queen Elizabeth as a victim of tradition and duty. (8/10)

My Thoughts On Lost

I am getting sick and tired of meeting new characters.

So are we to believe that Dharma has been around for a long time. Are they part of an extinct civilization?

The chicks name is Charlotte Staples Lewis...........fans are wondering if this a reference to C.S. Lewis?

Are the new new people representatives of Dharma? Do they want Ben because they found out it was him that initiated the "purge" and killed all their people?

Why is Locke so focused on the smoke monster? Garth believes that the mention of the smoke monster and the discovery of the polar bear bones and Dharma collar are to remind of us of these sightings and that we need to remember that it has only been a few months for them on the island where as viewers it has been a few years so these occurances are still fresh to them.

I found Ben's look interesting when he found out that Hurley has seen the Cabin.

Can we assume that Sayid will be part of the Oceanic 6 due to his major involvement in this rescue party?

Ben reveals to us that Charlotte is from Essex, England and at the beginning of the show Daniel was shown to be in Essex, Massachusetts.......weird.

Who is Regina, the woman Miles was talking to on the phone? She sounded a lot like Naomi. Maybe Naomi's (twin) sister?

Is Mike a ghost whisperer or ghost buster? His ghost busting machine looked like a dustbuster. I think they could have come up with something better.

My baby is of good character. Last month she won the award for the student with the most integrity and today she took home the award for student who displays the most empathy. I am one proud Mamacita.

Never A Dull Day For My Cousins

My dad sent me this photo of my cousin Sarah with President Bill Clinton. My cousin Sarah is currently employed as the weekday reporter, weekend anchor at Fox 17 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The complete family have also made their mark in the film industry, providing horses and wagons for dozens of films over the years, as well as doing stunt and training work. Tom Bishop Sr. (my uncle) and Jr ( my cousin) have been in the film industry in Toronto for approximately 35 and 20 years respectively, while Sally does her film work in Calgary, Alberta. My cousin Sally has set up this amazing website of all they encompass.

I have stayed away from reading or writing about Heath Ledger and all the speculation and rumours surrounding his recent death but now we have a released statement from the New York Medical Examiner who has ruled his death as accidental. The family can now have closure and move on. RIP Mr. Ledger

Actress Shell Kepler was most known for her years playing the gossipy nurse Amy Vining on the TV soap opera "General Hospital."

In addition to her run on "General Hospital," she was also in a 1982 Joan Collins film, "Homework," and a couple of episodes of the situation comedy "Three's Company."

Weekend Recap

Didn't spend much time blogging this weekend. It was definately about spending time out and about.
Friday the kids had a PA day and we spent a bulk of the day shovelling and shovelling. Just when we done, we went and did some more shovelling. The snow drifts and snow piles in our neighbourhood are huge. When I wasn't shovelling we spent time watching episodes of NCIS or catching up on my latest novel......."In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote.
I was perusing the shelves of a used bookstore I frequent and actually scored an original copyright print. The original cover price was 70 cents. When I went to the till the storeowner almost looked like she had second thoughts about selling it to me. Friday evening we watched the fourth Harry Potter Movie.
Saturday afternoon, we decided to venture out and went to catch a late afternoon matinee and I finally was able to see Juno. I loved it. It was a sweet and tender movie with a great supporting cast. I like that it gave us a perspective that not all of us traditionally see..........an imperfect family, with generally good supportive parents (in their own way), and pressures and issues that are not ideal or preferred. We then feasted at one of my favorite Chinese Food Restaurants. Today was a lunch date out with my girlfriends for birthday celebrations. Good food and good conversation. The rest of my Sunday was spent chillaxin listening to tunes. I am loving this singer lately:

Lost Is Back

There certainly was alot happening in the premiere episode of the season. You didn't want to blink and risk missing. ANYTHING!!! I almost forgot to breathe.

So.......Charlie is alive in Hurleys head but was Matthew Abbadon, the Oceanic attorney, real or in his head? Hmmmmmmm.

We now have a definite Jack camp and a definate Locke camp. Science verses faith.

Dominic Monaghan was not credited in this episode. How very sneaky.

I'm now going to be obsessed with figuring out who are the other 3 lostaways who get off the island.......maybe Sun, Jin and ???????

So, why does Hurley seem to change his mind? On the island, he follows Locke. In the flash forward, he apologizes to Jack for not following him. And then again, he says they need to go back to help their friends.

Is it Thursday yet? I can't wait.

I have been having fun with my new camera and now take it with me where ever I go.
I have decided that I am going to begin picking a color theme associated with each month and post the things I see in my life that hold that colour.
January is a grey month.
The skies are grey, and there is little color in the landscape.
Everything looks dull after the festivities of the last two months.
In January,things that were in colour even seemed more like shades of grey.
However, grey also can be seen as an elegant and neutral color.

Kathy Griffin Is Funny

Griffin did a special for Bravo that pissed off Ms.Walters. She poked fun at her involvement in Rosie/Hasselback drama and took Ro’s side and enjoyed adding fuel to the fire regarding the fight. Kathy Griffin is hilarious and real.
