Song Of The Day: If I Were A Boy By Beyonce'

I really like this song. I think the line, 'If I were a boy, I think I could understand how it feels to love a girl/I swear I'd be a better man' is reflected beautifully in this video.

This Website Is Going To Grow Big Over The Next Few Days

This site was put together in response to some people thinking that there are two kinds of Americans..... real Americans, and, false Americans?

Short clips are posted daily, and so far submissions have been quite diverse.

New On DVD

These are some new DVD releases this week that interest me and may interest you.

1.) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down a Dream -This four hour documentary traces Petty’s life in full circle, from his youth in Gainesville to his momentous 2006 homecoming concert in commemoration of his thirtieth anniversary in music.
Tom Petty tells his own story here, along with Heartbreakers past and present. Vintage footage, including home movies and rare television show clips, supplements the narration with valuable context and substance. As well, commentary by the likes of Stevie Nicks, Jeff Lynne, Eddie Vedder, and Jackson Browne offer a unique perspective of Petty, from friends and colleagues who admittedly are as much fans as the people who come to his concerts.
You can view trailer here.

2.) Billy The Kid - A documentary about a 15-year-old who loves KISS, karate and is a little bit different from his classmates in small-town Maine.

3.) National Lampoon's Animal House: 30th Anniversary Edition - This may be a good gift idea as it comes with a a documentary about the film, interviews and more.

4.) Body Of War - A documentary of an American soldier gravely wounded in Baghdad, and his tortured physical and emotional struggle to find place of comfort back home. It is directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro. Eddie Vedder provides the music.

5.) Hell Ride - Quentin Tarantino produced this B movie biker flick that stars Michael Madsen and features Dennis Hopper.

Song Of The Day: Family By Zach Gill (featuring Jack Johnson)

Zach Gill is a member of the surf rock and jam band ALO, the band that is perhaps best known as the opening act of Jack Johnson's In Between Dreams tour, although now he has taken a permanent spot in Jack Johnson's band.

Song Of The Day: Helpless By KD Lang

K. D. Lang sings Helpless standing in for Neil Young who was recovering in the hospital. Juno awards 2005.
The "town in North Ontario" referred to in the opening line of the song is often presumed to be Ontario native Young's hometown. Young himself cleared up the rumors in a 1995 Mojo interview with Nick Kent:

"Well, it's not literally a specific town so much as a feeling. Actually, it's a couple of towns. Omemee, Ontario, is one of them. It's where I first went to school and spent my 'formative' years. Actually I was born in Toronto..."

Weekend Recap

Spent a pretty laid back weekend. It was sweet bliss! Friday I headed to the gym after work and put in a pretty good workout. When I came home, my dear friend Kelly was picking up my girls to take them out for the evening premiere of High School Musical 3. (Better her than I)

I spent the evening lounging, sipping wine, dining on a great meal prepared by hubby and enjoying each others company without the little munchkins underfoot.

Saturday we spent the morning running errands and then home to watch Iron Man. What a rush! It was fun and Robert Downey Jr. never disappoints me. I loved the ending.

We spent Saturday evening having dinner with friends and once again I was pampered with hospitality. If you are keeping score.....you will note, this is two nights in a row that I have not had to cook. I could get used to this.

Sunday morning was spent finishing up homework and playing on computer. Later in the afternoon we watched The Incredible Hulk. It was another superhero success.

Song Of The Day: Colors By Amos Lee (feat. Norah Jones)

Amos Lee has toured with musicians such as Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Norah Jones, Paul Simon, and Merle Haggard.

Wassup 2008

Its been eight long years since the boys said "wassup" to each other. This video reflects the effects of a down economy and imminent and much needed change in the White House.

Just last weekend Amy was doing that
Sarah Palin rap.

What I Love About Facebook

Yesterday I mentioned that I find MySpace pages over rated. I do admit however to spending time on Facebook. As a young girl and adolescent I lived in various places throughout Canada and the world. Thanks to Facebook, I have been able to reconnect with some people from my past and ride the wave of nostalgia. Just a few weeks ago my friend Rafael sent me these photos via Facebook. I was living in Maracaibo, Venezuela and attended grade 7 & 8 at Escuela Bella Vista.

Michael Phelps, Alex Rodriguez, Kobe Bryant, & Tony Hawk dance in their under apparel for “Guitar Hero”.

Things That Are Overrated

I spent time having dinner with friends this evening. One of them shared with me that my blog has been a little lacking and it has lost its oomph.....they went as far to call it boring....zzzzzzz.
Wowza! That hurts.
What is a girl to do? I sucked up the criticism. I even asked for suggestions.
I asked "What is it that you would like me to blog about?"

My friend shared that she enjoyed when I shared personal stories or revealed what is going on in my life.
I apologized for my lack of Cancer and Chemo stories now that I am on the mend. I apologized for being on the path to recovery and having not so much uniqueness to share. She laughed and told me that is not what she meant. I know that she is happy for my good health but she also wants to share the small moments and the musings of my mind. This is for you Cait.....I aim to please.
Things that are overrated:

1.) Lord of the Rings movies

2.) Crocs - only for the operating room, for fishermen, acceptable for working in the garden and on small children.

3.) Myspace - The pages can be too overwheming.

4.) Celebrity Scientologists and Kabbalists. Enough already..... we get it.... you're cool.

5.) Poker

6.) Starbucks Coffee - Totally overpriced. I can't believe people are willing to pay a small fortune for a coffee. C'mon people, it's a bean with hot water.

7.) Being politically correct.

8.) Cakes from Bakeshops - I have begun to make my own cakes when our family is having a celebration and it is so much fun to decorate the cakes myself to suit the occasion.

9.) Ring tones - How many do we really need?

10.) MSN

11.) Going shopping on Boxing Day - Ugh!!!!

Song Of The Day: Ripple By The Grateful Dead

Listening to this the other night on vinyl I relized that this is one of the other great things that came out of the year 1970 other than my husband.

When life brings complications, it helps to remember that happiness is simple......so true!

Change We Need Rally

In Richmond Virginia.....

Here is another clip that reveals more of Obamas character and says it all....
PunkNews.org is streaming a new Johnny Cash tribute album.
All Aboard: A Tribute to Johnny Cash includes contributions by MxPx, The Dresden Dolls, members of Lucero and The Hold Steady, The Loved Ones, The Bouncing Souls and others. Songs include Folsom Prison Blues, Cry Cry Cry, Delia's Gone and Man in Black.
Here's a full tracklisting.

Shatner vs. Takei

The Shatner Project is a series of videos that Boston Legal star William Shatner has been doing with his daughter Liz. In one he talked about not being in the new Star Trek flick, and in the latest he goes off on being hated by former costar George Takei.
Takei has had a problem with Shatner since the early Trek days (something to do with Shatner's ego and wanting close-ups and not giving other stars more screen time), and most recently Takei didn't invite Shatner to his wedding, even though he did invite Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, and Walter Koenig.

Song Of The Day: Honey Honey By Feist

Leslie Feist has said, she felt the need to take a break from the music business following the success of her fourth studio album, The Reminder.

“[My career] has become kind of large and it really began for me very, very small,” she said, “like me alone in my bedroom with my four-track and a pair of headphones.
“I just need to go back there for a while to get my bearings again and then know what to do next. I just need to let it rest for a minute.”

Rachael Ray Corn Porn

Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that neither that guest lady, Rachel, or any of her producers did not realize how this would look before they put it on the air......then again my mind is always in the gutter.

Song Of The Day: Human By The Killers

I am loving this tune which has generated some considerable confusion and debate over a lyric in the chorus of the song. This is regarding whether or not Brandon Flowers is saying "denser" or "dancer", when posing the question "Are we human or are we denser/dancer?"
On the band's official website, the biography section states that Flowers is singing "Are we human, or are we dancer?" and also says that Flowers said the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging comment made by Hunter S. Thompson about how America was raising a generation of dancers.

Evan Jake Takes On The Cable Company

Who can't relate to this when they call the cable company?

Food Network Magazine

As some people know, I'm a fan of Food Network. When there doesn't seem to be anything on the major networks the first cable network I'll channel-surf to is Food Network. The shows manage to be entertaining even if you don't use the information in them, and I'm getting a lot of my recipes these days from the network and their web site. Just this afternoon I had a friend call up asking for 2 of my recent cooking successes.

Now they've launched a magazine to go along with the channel.

Someone with a little time on their hands put together this cool collection of leaves.

Laugh Of The Day

Garth thought my Dad might get a chuckle out of this.....

A woman was standing nude looking in her bedroom mirror.
She said to her husband, “I feel fat and ugly. Pay me a compliment.”
He replied, “Your eyesight’s damn near perfect.”

Song Of The Day - Part 1: Once Upon A Dream By Emily Osment

Song Of The Day:Reach Out, I'll Be There By The Four Tops

RIP, Mr Levi Strubb.

James Early Jones Recites The Alphabet

Check out this bizarre video of a young James Earl Jones reciting the alphabet.

Another Reason I Love Dennis Leary

In Dennis Learys new book he expresses his feelings on the increasing rise of autism. This guy must have been reading my mind.
"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a fuck what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."
I feel the same way about ADD and the ADHD.

David Duchovny & Téa Leoni Split

David Duchovny and his actress wife Téa Leoni have split up.......but not for the reasons one might think.
It was not his 'sexual addiction' that caused the break-down of their marriage, but rather his discovery of explicit text messages on her mobile phone sent by actor Billy Bob Thornton.

Disney Photos Of Resort

During our Disney vacation we stayed at the Pop Century Resort. It consisted of different lodges each geared towards a differnt decade. We were in the 70's. The decade of Disco, The Big Wheel and 8 track tapes. I really liked the 60's lodge where the pool was. It featured Peace logos and flower power, hula hoops and yo-yos. Each section played music from that era so we woke up to the sounds of Saturday Night Fever, Earth Wind and Fire, Gloria Gaynor and Andy Gibb. While we lounged by the pool which was in the era of the 60's we enjoyed, the Beatles, CCR, Beach Boys, Stones, Doors, etc.

Rolling Stone Magazine Is Shrinking

Rolling Stone magazine is ending its large format and adopting a smaller size.

I for one loved Rolling Stone's large newspaper styled format. It made it stand out. I'll miss the over-sized issues.

Random Disney - Part 3

I loved the detail in the decorations. The Mickey Mouse Pumpkins that adorned the streetlights were so festive and cute. I was amazed by the cleanliness of the park and it is reflected in these photos along the street scape of Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom.
I picked up a few Christmas ornaments in one of their Christmas shoppes and the girls wanted their picture taken on the holiday carriage outside the shoppe.
I noticed these little lizards everywhere.
The last two photos are of beautiful decorative and accent pieces I noticed when we visited the Asia part of the Animal Kingdom Park.

Song Of The Day: Tell Me Baby By The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Frontman Flea has said this is the best video they ever did. The directors interviewed and auditioned people who originally came to California to achieve some sort of fame and people who play music just for the sake of playing music. During the callback for the auditioned people, their second audition was filmed and the members of the Chili Peppers surprisingly entered the room during auditions to join in playing along.

Song Of The Day: Closer To The Heart By Rush

I remember first hearing this song when I was a young girl of 12. My family was embarking on a new journey. We were leaving Canada and heading to South America for a couple of years as this was where my fathers work was leading him. I had such ambivalent feelings and I remember latching on to this Canadian musical gem when I heard it during this period in my life. Music was and always been a source of comfort for me and this song gave me Canadian comfort when I needed it most.
I love this video that includes a clip of the band playing the song with Bubbles and Barenaked Ladies member Ed Robertson.

Deal Of The Day: Free Bag

Now who couldn't use a free bag?

Random Disney Photos - Part 2

More Disney Photos......The gardens were imaculately groomed yet I never saw anyone working on them. I believe this is a job left for the nightcrew. The picture with Garth and the girls is at Epcot. We loved visiting all the different countries of the world. While we were visiting it was the wine and food festival with many delicious samples to be had. We went for an amazing and interactive dinner at the German restaurant featured behind them called "Biergarten."

We only caught a glimpse of the daytime parade and the float that is pictured has the evil queen on it. The waiting area for the Dinosaur ride had an incredible display of Dinosaur skeletons and memorabilia. I found there was always interesting things in the wait areas prior to rides that could make time pass fairly quickly.

Thw incredible Tree of Life was the central focal point and gathering area in the Theme Park Animal Kingdom. It was an amazing structure to behold and I don't believe the photo does it enough justice. Interestingly, there is an inside to that tree which features a fun 3D show inspired by "A bugs life."
The last photo of Garth and the girls is them standing along the many streets which were featured in Africa when we went to the Animal Kingdom Park.

Random Disney Photos - Part 1

We just spent a magical and marvellous time in Disney World last week and a great time was had by all. I am missing it already. I took plenty of photos and will be sharing them here over the next few days. Bear with me it if it gets to be too much.....this is really for my parents who like to see my photos that I post.
The theme parks were festively decorated for the fall season and the gardens and grounds looked spectacular.
The girls loved Magic Kingdom so much that we spent 3 days in that park alone. I think we paced ourselves very well and took a break each day mid afternoon to return to the resort for a siesta and a swim. We boarded the riverboat cruise twice......once during the day and another day during the evening. The photo with Mickeys Hat from Fantasia in the background is in the theme park MGM Hollywood. It was our least favorite of all four parks. I think we were all expecting something more. I included the photo of the green beetle because I thought it was pretty. Lots of different little critters scurrying the ground in Florida. The nightime photo of Disney is just before the evening parade. It was incredible even during the rain. The nightime photo of the castle is just a brief glimpse of one of the many hues the castle turns during twilight hours.

Song Of the Day: Twist & Shout By The Beatles

Eddie Van Halen Is Engaged

I am spending the holiday weekend with family and catching up on some of the important news bits I missed while I was out of the country. My magical vacation of Disney was void of all news and every television at our resort was tuned into the Disney channel. I just learned that Howard Stern finally got married and Eddie Van Halen is engaged to his girlfriend/publicist Janie Liszewski.

Song Of The Day: Hope - Jack Johnson

Garth bought me this album in the summer and when I listen to it being played the sound is so acoustically pleasing.
This double LP reminds me of Cat Stevens, "Tea for the Tillerman" & " Teaser and the Firecat." All these albums have such a magical, being there sensation in the way they are recorded.
Jack Johnson is truly a musical fanatic because he cares how the music is recorded and doesn't fall into the digital dilema.

Song Of The Day: L.E.S. Artistes By Santogold

Santi White, better known by her stage name Santogold, is an American songwriter, producer, and singer. Her debut album Santogold was released in 2008.
"L.E.S. Artistes" was written after Santi White moved to New York City.
She has said the single "is playing on the fact that everyone tries to make things fancy and it's really pretentious" and "about being accosted by the New York scene and the scenesters and hipsters, who are really not artists and are just pretending to be. They're all about just being seen."
Contrary to popular belief, the title stands for New York's Lower East Side. "It's not a French thing," White stated in an interview with Pop Justice.

Laugh Of The Day

A Helping Hand

A man walking down the street noticed a small boy trying to reach the doorbell of a house. Even when he jumped up, he couldn’t quite reach it.The man decided to help the boy, walked up on to the porch and pushed the doorbell. He looked down at the boy, smiled and asked, “What now?”

The boy answered, “Now we run like crazy!”

Song Of The Day:Into The Great Wide Open By Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

This video Features a bunch of fun cameos, including by Terence Trent D'Arby, Faye Dunaway, Chynna Phillips of Wilson Phillips, and Matt LeBlanc.

Difference Between http:// and https://

The main difference between http:// and https:// is............. all about keeping you secure

HTTP stands for HyperText Transport Protocol, which is just a fancy way of saying it's a protocol (a language, in a manner of speaking) for information to be passed back and forth between web servers and clients.

The important thing is the letter S which makes the difference between HTTP and HTTPS.

The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure".

If you visit a website or webpage, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http://.

This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular 'unsecure' language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website!

But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

You understand why this is so important, right?

If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://.

If it doesn't, there's no way you're going to enter sensitive information like a credit card number!

Song Of The Day: Fall For You By Secondhand Serenade

Secondhand Serenade is an American acoustic rock solo project fronted by vocalist and guitarist John Vesely.
The pseudonym Secondhand Serenade is a reference to the way in which his songs are 'serenades' sung to his wife. People around the world are merely getting to hear the songs 'second-hand'.

Disney Vacation

I will be offline for a week as we are headed out for a much needed family vacation. I have done some advance posting to fill the void of my absence...ha,ha,ha.
The past year has been quite a year for all of us, however things continue to progress onward and upward despite a few setbacks here and there.
Brooke and Alley have been so well adjusted and tolerant to all the curves thrown at them in the last year.
It is their time now. I want to go and celebrate with them the good times that lay ahead for our family and hopefully bring some closure to a difficult year.
We will arrive in Orlando by plane Friday morning at 9:55 AM. We are staying at one of the Disney Resorts (see below) and will be transported from the airport right to the hotel with a Disney character accompanying us on the bus ride. I will give you a recap and post photos upon our return............until then, be well.

Daily Photo Aging Project

Time Of My Life is a Daily Photo Aging Project by Dan Hanna. From June 1, 1991, when he was 31 years old, to September 17, 2007, when he was 48 years old, he took a photo of himself every day. He reminds me of a young Bob Hope.

Weezer Concert Rocked!

I took Brooke to her first concert last night........Weezer at the Toronto Air Canada Centre.
The opening acts were Tokyo Police Club, a local bunch of lads from Brampton. They sounded great live and I was pretty impressed.

The group was in awe of playing at such a large venue and had the house lights turned on, so they could take a photo from their perspective, of the mass of people they were playing for......endearingly humble.
Angels and Airwaves were the next opening act. They're fronted by former Blink-182 lead singer Tom DeLonge.

At about 10:00, Weezer finally hit the stage to a pumped and energy fuelled crowd. They played a magnificent 20 or so set of new and familiar tunes. They gave plenty of shout out to the Toronto crowd and interacted with fans on the floor asking them where they were from.
Towards the end of the show and entire orchestra was brought out with 40-50 people with instruments who we later learned were local Toronto Musicians to accompany them as they played, "Island in the sun." It was spectacular with different solos being featured as directed by Rivers Cuomo. It was chaotic, happy fun.
We were seated on the left side of the stage in section 108 and the floor was fun to watch with a show of moshing, body surfing and beach balls being tossed.
The song set of the night included
“Hash Pipe”
“Dreamin’”
“Undone - The Sweater Song”
“Automatic”
“Say It Ain’t So”
“Suzanne”
“Troublemaker”
“King”
“My Name Is Jonas” which is Brookes favorite.
“Pink Triangle”
“Pork and Beans”
“Keep Fishin’”
“Perfect Situation”
“El Scorcho”
“The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”
“Morning Glory” (Oasis cover)
“Island In The Sun”
“Beverly Hills”
“Heart Songs”
“Buddy Holly"

The evening ended perfectly as Brooke and I were walking towards the car she slipped her hand in mine and said," Thanks for taking me to my first concert Mom, I had a great time."

So did I Brooke.....so did I.
